July 11 Speaker
Executive Director Stan Hilkey

Ex Dir Stan Hilkey

Colorado native Stan Hilkey was appointed Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety in June 2014 by Governor John Hickenlooper and was reappointed by Governor Jared Polis in January 2019.  In his role as Executive Director of CDPS, he provides leadership to the nearly 2,000 members of the department. CDPS is one of the largest departments in Colorado state government.

Under his leadership, the Colorado Department of Public Safety has played a critical, lifesaving role in the state of Colorado’s response to the pandemic, the largest wildfires in state history, and historic civil unrest.

Update from President Anne Slack
May all of you have a wonderful July 4th with family and friends.
Last night I helped Sunrise Rotary with the float for the Rooftop Rodeo.  I hope some of you can attend and help pass out candies and John Denver Tribute Concert business cards while having fun being with fellow Rotarians and the public. Email me if you want to do this and I’ll bring you the business cards: anneslack@aol.com.
Don’t forget the Board Meeting on Tuesday night, July 2nd at the Wasson Room upstairs at the library.
Wasn’t Ron Gordon’s presentation about himself wonderful?!  I so enjoyed it and am looking forward to our next presenter.
Enjoy our meeting on July 11th with Jack Ford leading and our Speaker Stan Hilkey, Executive Director of Public Safety.  I’m headed for our annual family reunion on Edisto Island, South Carolina!

Until next time
Annie

Rotarian Stories
We are starting a new activity where we go back and tell a little about ourselves. Ron Gordon told us about himself. He is 84, been married for 54 years to Vivian. He grew up in the DC area. Has a “worthless” degree in psychology. He worked for UPS in the industrial engineering program. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas during the Vietnam War. He lived three years in Germany for work. He retired in Estes Park and bought his house from Ross Brown who got him into Rotary. He has served in multiple leadership positions including being president in “some year a long time ago.”

Fundraising for the Scholarship Fund

August is a vital month for fundraising for the Scholarship Fund with the Shredathon on August 10th and the John Denver Tribute Concert on August 31st.  We need your help and sign up sheets will be circulating at the meetings between now and then.  Please make some time in your schedule to have a lot of fun with us at both events!

Also, consider being a sponsor for the concert.  More information to follow.

Here are two pictures of our float.  We were moving it to Mike McKinney’s barn to store until parade day on July 8th.  The theme is “The American Cowboy” and the design is a covered wagon with a saddle, fire pit and hay bales.  It is built on an 18 ft flat bed and will be able to seat people during the parade.  If you are interested in participating, passing out candy or John Denver Tribute Concert business cards, let me know before July 4th.  My email is anneslack@aol.com.
Thank you for listening,
Annie
