Community Service Committee Meeting (and Vote) this Thursday, 3/20/25 at 1:00 p.m.
The Community Service Committee will meet this coming Thursday, March 20, at the American Legion at 1:00 p.m. (right after our regular noon meeting), to discuss an exciting new project created by EVICS, our community's local Family Resource Center.
Each year for the past three years, our Club has funded EVICS' bilingual Story Time project for Estes Park kindergartners.
This year, EVICS will be launching a brand new project to take the place of the Story Time project, and they have asked if Noon Rotary will provide the funds for this new project instead of Story Time.
The program is called "Community Explorers: Learning & Growing Together." The program will meet every other month throughout the year, so, six times a year. There will be a guest speaker (all will be Estes Park community members, and may include a local firefighter, police officer, Park Ranger, nurse, doctor, or dentist, local farmer or chef, engineer or architect, local business owner, and/or local author or librarian) who will tell the children about their job, with interactive storytelling, hands-on activities, and opportunity for questions, so that the children will learn about these careers and also will feel connected with these community professionals.
EVICS anticipates serving approximately 100 - 120 children with this new program. The total cost will be approximately the same as the Story Time program we have funded previously: $3,500. The costs are for books and materials, only -- there are no charges for EVICS staff or for the speakers.
Beth will send out a more detailed program description to all Community Service Committee members a few days before our Thursday meeting. But for now, please hold the date for this important CSC meeting, where we will answer questions and vote on this project: Thursday, March 20 at the Legion, at or around 1:00 p.m. (whenever our regular noon meeting ends).
If you are not on the Community Service Committee but would like to receive the detailed proposal, please let Beth know, and she will add you to the email. All Club members are welcome to attend the meeting on March 20, regardless of whether or not you are on the Community Service Committee.
If you plan to attend the Duck Race committee meeting (which will be taking place on Thursday at the same time as this CSC meeting), please feel free to email your proxy vote to Beth at
weisberg.family@verizon.net about whether or not you support our Club funding this project.
Please also let Beth know if you have questions, either now or after you have seen the detailed project proposal early next week.
Most importantly, please plan to attend the March 20 meeting or provide a proxy vote if at all possible.
Thanks,
Beth
