Stan Crader to discuss writing process, inspiration
Author Stan Crader will speak at the Rotary Club of Estes Park at their regular noon Rotary meeting on Thursday, October 2. He will discuss the writing process, how he got started, and his experiences as an author.
Crader was born and raised in Bollinger County, Missouri. Coming of age in rural Missouri provided him the material for many of the rich characters in his books. He credits the variety of jobs and the people with whom he has worked for providing him his creative foundation. While growing up, his jobs included paper routes, mowing lawns, grocery store carry out, farm equipment set-up, sawmills, and janitorial services. According to Crader, one learns a great deal about people when you see what groceries they purchase.
After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Missouri, where he fully realized the uniqueness of his hometown. He met his wife Debbie at a Missouri-Nebraska football game, and Stan and Debbie now live in the Bollinger County area where they raised three boys and a golden retriever. In addition, they own a home in Estes Park, where they spend as much time as possible.
Stan is known for the unusual. He once caught a bat at a Cardinal baseball game, was invited to the home of Stan and Lillian Musial, flew the Atlantic in a Cessna, and was filmed by his grandfather jumping a creek on a motorcycle.
He is president of a small family business that sells Stihl chainsaws and power tools. He was once elected city councilman of Marble Hill, the town where he came of age. In that capacity he gained a new respect for those that serve as volunteers in small towns. The mayor, that he served as councilman, was also his former elementary school music teacher, which made for an interesting dynamic.
Proceeds from Stan’s books have always been donated to charitable organizations.Through a mutual friend, Stan was introduced to Chrisanne Gordon and Resurrecting Lives, an organization that supports advocacy, research, treatment and education for veterans with traumatic brain injuries. Moments into his first conversation with Chrisanne, hearing the passion in her voice, and learning of the Resurrecting Lives Foundation prodigious mission on behalf of America’s warriors, the decision to support Resurrecting Lives seemed providential.

The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation has announced the opening of the application process for the 2014-2015 Community Rotary Grants Program. The Foundation, in partnership with the noon Rotary, invites grant proposals from charitable or other tax-exempt organizations in the Estes Valley. The deadline for receipt of the completed applications is January 2, 2015. Awards will be announced in late January 2015.
”It’s anticipated that these proposals will support programs and projects that help foster the general well-being of our community while advancing the principles and purposes of Rotary,” said Dave Evans, Community Grants Chairman for the Foundation. “The recipient organizations address a wide variety of causes, including support for the arts, for youth and the elderly, as well as overall community needs.”
Charitable non-profit organizations may download both the application and guidelines from the Rotary Club's website at www.rotaryclubofestespark.org under the heading, “Community Grants.” Requests for hard copy of the application and guidelines may be mailed to The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation, PO Box 1854, Estes Park, CO 80517.
