K-Lynn Cameron and Linda Stanley will present a program discussing the Help Preserve Open Space ballot measure to the Estes Park Rotary Club at their regular noon Rotary meeting on Thursday, September 18. The Open Space measure has been referred to the voters by the Larimer County Commissioners for this November’s election.
Nearly 20 years ago, the citizens of Larimer County voted to protect the open spaces of Larimer County by approving the Help Preserve Open Spaces 1/4 of one percent sales tax. Since then much has been protected across Larimer County, including Hermit Park, Devil’s Backbone, Long View Farm, Coyote Ridge, Red Mountain Ranch, and additions to Horsetooth Mountain Park, Fossil Creek Reservoir, and Rivers Bluff.
If passed by voters, this continuation of the existing open space sales tax would ensure that Larimer County and its cities and towns can continue to protect the most important open spaces, natural areas, wildlife habitat, and working farms and ranches in Larimer County. It would provide trails and other opportunities for walking, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, bird watching, and fishing, protect and restore lands along rivers, lakes, and streams, and keep these spaces and natural areas well managed.
Rotary Club helps in Fish Creek Road Trash and Slash Cleanup
Rotary members joined students from Colorado State University, local town volunteers, and the head of the Colorado Department of Safety in cleaning out trash and vegetation along Fish Creek Road on Saturday September 13th. Members supplied both muscle power and truck power to accomplish this work. We were joined for lunch by Joe Garcia, Lt. Governor of Colorado in recognition of Colorado’s Day of Service. This event was sponsored locally by the River Advisory Committee, the Rocky Mountain Assist Team that provided trucks and trailers, and the Colorado Spirit Mountain Outreach Team. Thank you Jim Austin, Madison Casey and Chuck and Dale Bonza for helping out in the spirit of Rotary’s community service initiative.

Rotary Quote of the Week
"There is nothing intangible about Rotary: It is reality itself. To give is to receive; to lose oneself is to find oneself; to be happy is to serve. These are old truths...for the individual...and the mass, whether application be in the exchange of goods, toil, knowledge or love."
- Dr. Crawford C. McCulloch, 1921-22 Rotary International President
