Dawn and Ed Shields believe that the greatest injustice in the world today is human trafficking. This horrible hidden secret lurks beneath the everyday facade of our society. In cities and small towns, with the influential and with the have nots. This disease is no respecter of persons. It started to be made known to Ed and Dawn, and the more they became educated the more they realized they had to make a difference. The passion to make a difference grew and they received training through ARC, the Association for the Rescue of Children, a non-profit started by a former CIA agent. The fact that children are involved compounds how insidious this modern day travesty really is. It is truly the blight of our lifetime. Many of us are parents and grandparents, so it should be very natural for us to want to help children in need. The key to most endeavors is, to start. Even if one child can be rescued, that is infinitely better than none. Boys in particular are increasingly being trafficked. There are currently no homes in the USA that take boys that have been rescued from trafficking. There are homes for homeless boys but not specifically trafficked boys. Through abuse precious boys are robbed of the protective nature they are born with and morph into predators themselves. The more the curtain has been drawn, the deeper our passion and conviction has grown. Thus the birth of Shield Ranch.

As I’m sure all of you know the difficulties of trying to get an entire family together for almost anything. Well, ours is no different. Trying to juggle everyone’s job, schedules, time off, and child doings is tough. We were able to get our family together and are all going to Costa Rica next week. This is a first in our family! Not only Costa Rica, but also vacationing together.
Memories in life are very important. And spending time with family is priceless. So I hope you all can take time to create as many memories as possible! See you in two weeks!

Anne Slack said there will be a
joint potluck social event with our club and Sunrise Rotary
at The Barrel on February 2 at 5:30 PM

our former exchange student, Antonia, will be back to see us
we will resume sponsoring an exchange student for next school year with Sunrise.

Ron Gordon gave a report on the Bangladesh project.
It had been on hold with Covid and we had not had a progress report in a while.
The project was to start three model villages to train people in skills to make them self-sufficient and people are already benefitting.
They are:
Tailoring and sewing – 12 girls completed one year of training to sew.
Candle making – 24 completed this and want to start businesses to make candles. They are seeking funding.
Bamboo crafting for making handicrafts like baskets and pots from their local materials.

working on the Duty Roster in the Spoke too.
She also announced for the American Legion
they are halfway to their fundraising goal
have already spent $550,000 on the building like the roof, restrooms, entry way, honor wall,
keep them in mind for donating to help them.
Jim Austin reported news from Longley Parker from Iowa.
Longley is helping with bookkeeping in Michelle’s absence.
Longley sends us greetings and says it is a cold winter there but he has enjoyed ice fishing and earlier, pheasant hunting.
Scott Robbins is happy for all the support he has received for the duck race and that so much progress has been made on the many tasks.
Ron Gordon is happy that Milt Garrett has been working full time to help as many Russians leave their country as he can.
Mike Connolly announced the Astronomy group will have an open house on Saturday at the Observatory and host a speaker who will give a program on Dark Skies in Estes and The Park. If weather is good, they will open the telescope to look at the comet.
Dennis announced Michelle Mann will have radiation treatments three times this week. We all pray for her and the club has sent flowers.
Annie said we need someone to take on Michelle’s task updating our Facebook page.
