Update from President Anne Slack When Shurie Scheel was here she presented the Rotary International Vision and Mission statements. They are: Vision Statement: Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Mission Statement: We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance community and world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.” Then Shurie proceeded to present the Rotary Club of Casper’s Vision and Mission: Vision Statement: We are dedicated to improving our community through service and fellowship. Mission Statement: Together, we see a community where people unite and take action to create lasting change. I was surprised because I thought once you develop a Vision and Mission Statement, they are permanent. Yet, Shurie was showing us, we could develop our own Club’s Vision and Mission statement. Would you want to do this? In my searching for ideas for us, what I repeatedly found was the “Object of Rotary”. How many of you know what the Object of Rotary is? OBJECT OF ROTARY The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Hopefully, that is what we as a Club demonstrate as we perform service locally, District-wide and internationally, and we don’t need a separate Mission and Vision Statement.
