Update by President Dennis Gellhaus

Room with people suffering from Polio in Iron Lungs so they can breathe.

The eradication of polio has been a major project for Rotary for the past 35 years.  We are so very close, but It remains elusive.  My oldest cousin on my father’s side - born in the mid 40’s contracted polio as a small child and was paralyzed from the waist down.  Sally lived her life on crutches.  The fact that she struggled with this disease helped me to become a Rotarian.  Maybe you know of others who have struggled with this disease.  Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria continue to be troublesome; as well as part of the 1% that must still be fought.  Our District Conference will have opportunities to give and continue the work to root out polio.   Look for those Opportunities.  Thanks.

And thanks for listening.
Dennis

The District Conference will be held at The Ridgeline Hotel in Estes Park at 101 S. Saint Vrain Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517

Andy Lenac, from the Denver LoDo Club is speaking at the District Conference on Saturday, June 10 at the luncheon. He recently spoke at our noon meeting.  His topic will be Solar Panel USB chargers being sent to Ukraine used by the military, schools, hospitals, etc. to charge phones when there is no electricity, which is almost constant in many areas. It can be a lifesaver!

Come hear Andy and meet him in person at the Saturday, June 10, luncheon.  The cost for the all day Saturday conference is $105/person.  See Agenda on website.

Board Approved New Member Application

Dave Scott

The Board has approved Dave Scott's application for membership. Dave was born December 9, 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky.  He is married to Janet (Jan) and has a daughter named Robin. He attended DePauw University, the University of Louisville and the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a retired trumpet professor from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA.  He was the fist official bugler at Churchill Downs which helped pay for his Masters Degree from the University of Louisville.  He has performed as a recitalist/clinician throughout the United States.  A review of his playing states “Scott played with energy and refinement and displayed excellent command of the instrument.” Dave has been a voting member of NARAS (Grammy Awards).

Dave and his wife, Jan, bought property here in Estes Park in 2014.  Wayne Newsom is his Sponsor.

Even though Dave says he is retired, he still plays with various bands including Village Band, Village Jazz Band, Kings of Swing, Highland Brass Quintet and others. He is also the Vice President of the Prospect Mountain HOA; he is on the Lake Charles LA Recycling Board, the Lake Charles Symphony Board, and McNeese State University Faculty Senate. When not pursuing musical activities, he enjoys hiking and exploring all that Estes Park has to offer.

Dave wants to be involved in the community and joining Rotary is a way for him to participate.  As a matter of fact, Karen Thompson recruited him to play at the start of the Duck Race “Call to the Post”.

According to club bylaws, if there are no objections within seven days of publication, the applicant shall be considered elected to membership.
