Cole Evanek grew up in Estes Park, Colorado, before graduating from Colorado State University and moving to China with his wife. He traveled that country extensively, learning Mandarin Chinese along the way and visiting more than 20 Chinese provinces. Cole spent one year living in Shanghai and four years living in the Southwestern city of Guiyang. While there, he taught English, tennis, and Western Culture, and also worked as a writer. Cole is currently a law student at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
While in China, Cole developed an understanding of its culture and history that he hopes can help challenge some of the prevailing misconceptions about China in American public discourse. He will discuss daily life in China, how ordinary Chinese perceive America, and the changed political landscape of the country following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our program on January 8th will be held in person, but a Zoom link will be provided.
