The Estes Park Health Foundation-

Helping our hospital help our town

Kevin Mullin, Executive Director of the Estes Park Health Foundation, will be speaking to the club on Thursday, Oct. 10, at our regular noon meeting. His program will focus on the Estes Park Health Foundation, the fundraising arm of Estes Park Health.

Mullin provides leadership and management to the Foundation since 2016, focusing mainly on fundraising. He has over 20 years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising, having previously worked for the American Red Cross, Inner City Health Center, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Kevin Mullin

Kevin earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Regis University and holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation. Furthermore, he completed a Master of Nonprofit Management degree and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Capacity Building from Regis. In addition, he is a graduate of the Institute for Leaders in Development at the University of Denver.

Mullin serves on the Boards of the North Colorado Medical Center, The Elizabeth Guild, and the Denver African American Philanthropists (DAAP). Also, he contributes on committees with the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable.

Originally from Fresno, CA, Kevin enjoys travel, skiing, fast cars, and technology - and being a member of the Rotary Club of Estes Park. He plays softball, volleyball and golf. His son, Kevin Jr., is studying at Western Washington University. He plans to follow in his father's footsteps, and is currently preparing for a career in Philanthropy.

October 10 meeting notes

President Doug Mann called the meeting to order at 12:00. He made the following announcements:
  • The Nominating Committee has been finalized and will include the following members: Bill Solms, Dave Evans, Pete Surney, Dennis Gellhaus and Virgil Holtgrewe.
  • Duck Race volunteer and former noon club member Ed Acela, now in the Longs Peak Club, was in a car accident and broke his back.
Rotarians were greeted by Wayne Newsom. Invocation was given by Gregg Jurgens. Madison Casey led the song and Pledge of Allegiance. Introductions by Brad Rosenbaum. Visiting Rotarian: our presenter, Tim Cashman (Sunrise Rotary). Sadly, there was no joke as Scott Thompson was absent.

Happy Money
NOTE: October 24 is World Polio Day, and this month's Happy Money will go to benefit this, plus there will be jars placed in businesses to collect donations for support.
  • Virgil Holtgrewe was happy that last month was his birthday, and on November 1 he will celebrate his 60th anniversary as a Rotarian.
  • Karen Thompson was happy that she and Scott were going to Ohio for the weekend to watch Ohio State play Michigan State.
  • Jennifer Comstock was happy that she finally got to take the "New Member" ribbon off her rotary badge.
More Announcements
  • Jack Boatman announced that based on member feedback, changes will be made to the time frame and limits for Matching Charitable Donations. There will be a second round of donation matching this year to line up more with year-end giving; donations will be matched between October 10 - December 12, and the amount is now $200 per member (still a $50 minimum). Donations must be to a registered 501c3 that benefits Estes Valley residents as we want to directly support local non-profits that used to receive community grants. Doug Mann encouraged us to take advantage of the opportunity to double our gifts to local charities, and Annie Slack used Healing Waters as an example of local charities that need help.
  • Karen Thompson announced that beer sales at Elk Fest totaled $6,753. After expenses and splitting the proceeds with the Longs Peak Rotary, we should make about $2,500. She thanked the volunteers for a successful fundraiser.
  • Tara Moenning reminded everyone of the memorial for Bob Brunson scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, 4 - 7 p.m. at the American Legion.
Program
Tara Moenning introduced our guest speaker, Tim Cashman, Chief Financial Officer for Estes Park Health. Tim presented the Competitive Advantages of Critical Access Hospitals and also shared some general updates on the new EPH facility being built on Steamer. This facility will house Urgent Care and multiple outpatient services.

Double your donation to your favorite local charity!

The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation is conducting a matching charitable donation program this fall to supplement donations to local non-profits.

The maximum matching donation amount is $200 per member and the minimum donation amount is $50. Rotary Club of Estes Park members will be able to apply for matching donations from the Foundation between October 10 and December 12, 2019. The Foundation will be providing matching donations to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations serving Estes Valley residents and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State.

The application form which provides detailed instructions is available on the club website and will be available at the weekly club meetings.

If you have any questions, please contact or email Jack Boatman (email:  jack.boatman7@gmail.com / Telephone:  832-623-5647) - Grants Manager.

Rotary Quote of the Week
World Polio Day is Oct. 24

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent. It’s crucial to eliminate polio from the last three countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
