Update by President Jim Whiteneck

Announcements:
  • A big Thank You to Tara and Phil Moenning, Pete Sinnott, Scott & Karen Thompson, Chuck Bonza and Jack Boatman for helping out with Sunrise Rotary Club’s Arts and Crafts Show! We appreciate your efforts!
  • We’re counting on everyone to “CHIP-in” with the golf tournament on September 25th. Our Scholarship program really needs your support!
  • Our Club Social will be held on September 30, Thursday, at 5:30. There are 9 reservations remaining. Please join your friends at Snowy Peaks Winery.

Help Needed!

Our Club needs a Little Duck, someone to step up and take responsibility for assisting our current Big Duck, Beth Weisberg, and then be willing to serve as Big Duck next year!
Our Club needs someone to write articles for the papers, about the Duck Race and about events in our meetings like new members, Paul Harris awards, etc.  Dale Bonza has been doing this since Rita left but Dale is busy with FEMA and Hurricane Ida. She could use some help.
Our Club needs one to two new Scribes, to take notes during our meetings.  We have recently lost Rita and now Dale.  Are you able to do this job?  It means taking notes and then summarizing them for the Spoke once a month.
Our Club needs a photographer to catch pictures as they occur.
Our Club needs a Sergeant-At-Arms, a person who preserves order and executes commands.  In the Sunrise Club, the Sergeant-At-Arms makes money for the club and has fun at the same time by fining people for wearing shorts in cold weather or forgetting a jacket at an event!

Are you able to perform one of these jobs?  Please contact President Jim Whiteneck if you are available.

And a BIG THANK YOU!!  Remember "Service Above Self"
September 2, 2021 Meeting Notes

President Jim Whiteneck called the meeting to order.
Karol Rinehart gave the invocation
Jim Whiteneck led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Madison Casey led the song, “God Bless America,”

Announcements:
  • Jim pointed out the photo board of our scholarship recipients.
  • Club Board meets September 7 at 5:00 at the Library Hondius Room.
  • Jim thanked those who volunteered this weekend to work at the Sunrise Club’s annual Arts & Crafts Show.
  • Karen Thompson reported that Beth Weisberg says she is recovering well from back surgery.
  • Jim says we need to fill the positions of Little Duck and Sergeant at Arms.  We also need more scribes to be in the rotation to take club meeting notes every 4 or 5 weeks.
  • Foundation President Carl Robicheaux gave a strong plea for everyone to donate and sponsor the golf tournament as this is the one major event to fund our scholarships.  Pete Sinnott is making beautiful wooden bowls for those new sponsors at Bronze, Silver, Gold levels.   Today he awarded the first bowl to Moennings.  We can invoice you to sponsor.
  • Jim encouraged us to wear our Paul Harris pins to inspire fellow Rotarians to give.
  • Annie invited us to sign up to attend our club social September 30 at Snowy Peaks Winery.   9 spots are still available.
  • We wished Karol Rinehart Happy Birthday.
Scott Thompson told his joke.

Happy Money
  • Tom Maher was happy that his children thoughtfully gave them 2 nights at the historic TWA Terminal Hotel at JFK Airport, where Tom flew from in his career.   He was very happy that they attended the US Open Tennis Tournament in New York last week rather than this week in the hurricane flood.
  • Bill Solms was happy for Pete Sinnott’s prize bowls for the golf tournament major sponsors.
For the International Committee, Milt Garrett gave an inspiring invitation for us to come to Russia as citizen ambassadors for 15 days next June 5-20, 2022.   Rotary has a history of international interaction as 49 Rotarians were part of crafting the United Nations charter.  Rotary has grown in Russia to 50 clubs since it began there in 1983. You need to fund yourself and the cost is $3,000-5,000 depending on what level of flight and lodging you want.  Annie will email us invitations (look for this information in next week's Spoke).

Program:
Guy Van Der Werf introduced his colleague Dr. Richard Payden of Timberline Medical who updated us on the Covid Virus and Delta variant.   We can get tested with the preferred PCR method at Timberline for active symptoms and EP Health for any reason.

Adjourned.
