Hibiscus
Years ago I had a 100 year old lady in my care facility. She was an absolute delight. She had been an elementary educator in her career and the mother of a Federal judge. She was waiting for a hibiscus to bloom, and every morning she would get up early and walk out to the porch to see if it had bloomed. She was getting impatient and one morning I heard her come out and say to the flower, “BLOOM DARN* IT, I haven’t got forever!” (It wasn’t actually darn*).
We all get impatient with life, but time keeps us churning through the years and embracing opportunities to do good. So go ahead and seize the day by reaching out, and shout out what needs to get done!

Meeting Notes for April 20, 2023
President Dennis Gellhaus rang the bell at 12:00 PM. Carl Robicheaux gave the Invocation. President Dennis led the Pledge of Allegiance. Madison Casey led the song “April Showers.”

Beth introduced Anna Weddle for her second visit. She has an application to join the club.
Annie introduced Jack Ford, a former Rotarian that wants to rejoin.
Gary Nelson introduced Dr. John Knudtson, MD who is considering joining the club.

The Foundation Board will meet today.
Jim Austin said this is Shelter Box Day. Please consider donating and check out the sample box that will be at the district conference.

The Observatory program for tonight is cancelled and a fall date is being considered.
The Duck Race Committee will meet at 5 pm at the Ridgeline.
Please take a poster and put it up starting Saturday.
We still need sponsors and prize donors.
The Duck Drop will be at Nicky’s even though there are new owners and the restaurant may not be open yet.
Jim Jonell says there is a desperate need for hosts for the exchange student from Italy.
We need four host families and a backup family.

Josh the Otter will be on May 5 at 2:15 p.m.
Three more volunteers are needed.
Ben Van der Werf said next Saturday is a clean-up day for the river to prepare for the Duck Race.
He needs another volunteer for collecting ducks at the finish line.

Community Service Meeting
Thursday, April 27, 2023
The Community Service Committee will be meeting on Thursday, April 27 in person at the American Legion, right after the (shortened) noon Rotary meeting, to discuss the following:
Update on Clean-Up Day (April 29);
Funding the EVICS Bilingual Story Time project next year (January - May 2024), from a combination of Projects Funds and a District matching grant;
Helping Sunrise Rotary with a rodeo float -- report by Dawn Shields;
Status update on the Rec Center banner;
Status update on Service project for June 8-10 District Conference in Estes Park;
Other ideas for Community Service projects or grant awards.
The meeting will last no longer than an hour, possibly less.
If anyone has ideas or questions, or other agenda items -- or if anyone knows they won't be able to attend and would like an email after the meeting with notes of what was discussed, please let Beth know at weisberg.family@verizon.net.

Full conference registration includes Thursday ice cream social & museum tour, all meals, breakout sessions & speakers on both Friday & Saturday.
Rates are as follows:
$235 regular: March 16th-April 30th
$250 late: May 1st-May 31st
Ala carte registration options are available as follows (only sign up for these if you can't attend entire conference-pick the ones that work best for you):
A 10% cancellation fee will be charged until May 31st to cover credit card transaction expenses.
After May 31st there are no refunds as meal headcounts will be given to the hotel on June 1st.
