Barry Hannigan is currently President of the Rotary Foundation and will teach us about that organization. Previously he was known for his performances throughout the United States and in Europe. He has performed in Russia, China, England, Ireland, Norway, and New Zealand. He has appeared as guest artist at a host of American universities, such as UCLA, Yale, Cornell, and the Universities of Oregon, Colorado, Illinois, Arizona State, and Texas. Hannigan recently retired as the Ellen Williams Professor of Music at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA., where he received the Class of ’56 Lectureship for inspirational teaching. His students have earned graduate performance degrees in piano at schools such as Peabody Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, and the New England Conservatory.
Madison Casey has been Past President of the Rotary Foundation but now serves as a Trustee and Investment Chair. He will teach us about the financial side of the Foundation. He has been part of our Rotary Club Foundation’s investment since we brought the management in-house in 2009. He was on the committee with Chair Marsha Yelick, who wrote our investment management policy.
Madison is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and passed the CPA Exam out of college, though did not practice to be certified. He worked for 12 years as a stock analyst and client liaison in New York for Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. (now JP Morgan) and then the since merged Cyrus J. Lawrence Inc. He has an MBA in Finance & Management, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Business Administration, Accounting concentration, with Distinction, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

I am pleased to be able to announce that Isaiah Johnson and Ben Van der Werf have volunteered to head the Audit Committee. This task is much needed as we have not completed an audit in years. They both work full time but will have three months to accomplish the audit. Be sure to thank them for their service.
The tour of the Veterans Community Project in Longmont this last Wednesday was amazing. Jim Whiteneck, Beth Weisberg, Jack Ford, Scott Robbins, and myself were there from the noon Rotary. My husband Gordon, Sunny Schmitt, her husband David Ruffley, Cindy Taylor and her Mom, and David Arterburn were there from Sunrise. Melissa Gruber showed us around the facility and explained how the organization selects Veterans into their program. It is a very thorough and well-thought-out plan as far as ensuring these people are adequately cared for and assisted with support services.
The Project is designed for homeless Veterans to help them achieve self-sufficiency and housing stability despite discharge status. It consists of 26 homes for Veterans at no cost to them. Single units are 240 square feet in size and family homes are 340 square feet in size. Every item in the tiny home goes with the Veteran when he/she leaves, including a bed, lounge chair, dish washer, microwave, linens, and much more. Be sure to look up their website or visit it when you are in Longmont. It is located behind the Home Depot on 3095 Mountain Brook Dr.
Finally, come join me on Saturday, June 7th at the Inkwell, upstairs at 8:30 AM for a warm drink and good conversation. Scott Robbins will be gone, but his efforts this year to have monthly socials have been inspiring and I don’t want to let one pass. Thank you Scott for starting this tradition. Community Service Committee meeting on Thursday, June 5
There will be a meeting of the Community Service Committee this coming Thursday, June 5, at the American Legion immediately following the noon Rotary meeting. We will be discussing and voting on two potential Project funds awards: one is to the Veterans Community Project to help with the costs of housing homeless veterans in VCP tiny houses in Longmont; and the other is for the Senior Citizens Center in Estes Park, to enable them to continue their weekly educational and entertainment programs which are provided free to all Estes Park residents, and which provide a much-needed sense of community and socializing to the residents who attend.

John Denver Tribute Concert: Status and Meeting
The John Denver Tribute Concert (JDTC) will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday, June 11th, at 8:30 am in the conference room at the Quality Inn. All Club members are welcome to attend, or join in volunteering for this committee. The website went active in early May, and we have already sold 88 tickets for the event.
Chair person is Carl Robicheaux, upcoming Fund Development Director.

Lander Rotary Club Fundraiser
to support Ukraine
The Lander Rotary Club is holding a fundraiser to send assistance to the people of Ukraine! Jerry Venters is Foundation Chair for the Club and sent this request. After sending 100 solar panels converted to cell phone chargers for use by the people of Ukraine, the Lander Rotary Club is launching a District-wide artwork raffle and auction fundraiser to send another 100 of the cell phone chargers to war-torn Ukraine. The campaign goal is $15,000 and will continue through June 15. Paintings and photographs newly created by artists in central and western Wyoming especially for this fundraising effort will be offered – six items in a silent auction and five smaller items in a $25-per-ticket raffle (only 250 tickets will be sold). The offerings range from “Barn Owl Over the Snake,” a framed oil painting by Noelle Weimann, to “Gathering the Herd,” a metal print by Scott Copeland. The market value of the artwork in the auction ranges from $1,200 to $5,000, and in the raffle from $175 to $250.
