Update from President Anne Slack
 
Did you enjoy Dave Talbot’s presentation on Crutches4Africa?  Every time I hear his talk I am appreciative of the work he and his wife, Candace, are doing around the world!  Maybe I related to what he is doing because of my life as a physical therapist.  But, do you realize that if Rotary did not work on End Polio Now, that disease would be affecting millions of children just as severely as it always has.  Crutcher4Africa is helping the people in the world that did not escape polio by providing assistive devices.   It all started with the two of them and it is a world-wide endeavor...not just Africa. How amazing is that?
 
When I watched his videos, all I could think of was the importance of us, you and me, contributing dollars to Rotary International so the important work of immunization can be continued until polio is completely eradicated.  What a wonderful gift to the world.
 
Thanks to everyone who has turned in their surveys to me.  If you decide you want to complete a Membership Satisfaction Survey, let me know: anneslack@aol.com or 970-231-6697.  I am summarizing the results and will give a report at our Annual Meeting October 3rd.
 
Be sure to buy your tickets for the John Denver Tribute Concert!  It is this coming Saturday. $35 if you buy the tickets before the concert. $40 if you wait and buy them at the door.

President Anne Slack called the meeting to order.  
Invocation by Pete Sinnott.
Annie led the Pledge of Allegiance.
We sang “Give My Regards to Broadway”, accompanied by Madison Casey.

  • Annie acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries. 
  • Next week is 5th Thursday so come to the John Denver Tribute Concert on Saturday August 31.
  • Annie says she has received our completed surveys, and forms are on the table for the rest of us to complete. 
  • Tim Moore said we need volunteers to pour beer for Elkfest weekend of Sept 28-29.

Dave Talbot is a Rotarian in Evergreen and a polio survivor.  He talked about his organization “Crutches 4 Africa” which has shipped huge numbers of walking assist items to Africa with no paid employees.  His wife Candice is the Director and was also with us.   Annie said she is naming this her President’s chosen cause.

When Part of the Spoke is Missing
 
Sometimes, part of the Spoke is missing in the email. due to "clipping" by the mailer, like gmail. Although details vary, all mailers clip emails that are too big for the usual handling. Clipping can take two forms: the end, e.g. "Subscribe to Bulletin", can be missing, or the sidebar, e.g., "Duty Roster" can be missing. In both cases, if you scroll to the bottom of the email, you will see "[Message clipped]  View entire message". Clicking on this link will open the full email in a new tab.
Nominating Committee Members Changed
 
Thanks to the following Rotarians for volunteering to be on the Nominating Committee: Jack Ford, Sarah Walsh, Carl Robicheaux, Chris Davis and Paula Edwards.  Their job is to develop a list of qualified nominees for Officers and Directors for 2025-2026 Rotary fiscal year.  Officers positions include a President Elect Nominee, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant-at-Arms. Directorate positions that are open this year are: Community Service, International Service and Fund Development.  If you are interested in any position, please contact one of the members listed above.  Their decisions have to be completed by the middle of September to allow time to notify the club three times before our Annual Meeting on October 3rd per our Bylaws.
