JR joined the Estes Park Rotary in 2006. He served as a Foundation Board Trustee and as club game/raffle manager for several years. He also recruited song leaders for club meetings until earlier this year.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in April 2014.
This week's program to highlight Rotary's Polio Plus
This week's program will feature President Brad Rosenbaum discussing Polio Plus, the international coalition to eradicate the crippling and potentially fatal disease.
Rotary and its partners has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since 1979, when it launched its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines.
More than 2 billion children have been immunized against polio in 122 countries.
Rotary International's Polio Plus partners include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Don't miss Thursday's meeting and the chance to learn more about this critical initiative!
FIRST TUESDAY will be here before we know it! What's FIRST TUESDAY? Well, as you know the local business owners of Estes Park have repeatedly responded to innumerable requests for donations - donations which end up enriching the lives of folks living right here in the Estes community, including yours and mine.
Wouldn't it be fun to enrich back? Pay it forward in a sense? Give before asking? We'd like to do just that and support our local restaurants by having lunch on the FIRST TUESDAY of each month at a different venue. So if you're available please join fellow Rotarians for FIRST TUESDAY at Molly Bs, September 2, 12 p.m., for good food with good friends.
If you notice a name missing from the email distribution list, please invite them as well - as we reach out in appreciation to Paras, owner, and Sabir, manager at Molly Bs. Would be great to see you there! So if you can make it, please RSVP to linda.tippett@gmail.com - so we can get a head count.
Want to feature your club committee's work, events or announcements in an upcoming Spoke?
There's always room for more news in The Spoke. To submit items, please send them to spokeinfo@rotaryclubofestespark.org by 9 a.m. on Monday for the week's newsletter. The newsletter is compiled on Monday morning for distribution to 212 recipients by email on Monday afternoon. Be a part of keeping your club members informed!
That's: spokeinfo@rotaryclubofestespark.org

The three club Rotary social last night at Coffee on the Rocks was a huge success. There were 60 RSVPs and 90 attended.
Happy Money
Frank Haines is happy to be visiting again this summer and looks forward to returning next year.
Karen Van Drie is happy to be going to Wisconsin so see her daughter compete in an Ironman Triathlon and that her mother and sister will be going too.
Pete Sumey thanked Brad and the other two Rotary Club presidents—Christy and Marci—for the great interclub social last night. It was fun meeting other club members and seeing who is in Rotary.
Ward Nelson echoed Pete’s comment about the great Rotary party at Coffee on the Rocks.
Program Change for next week
Brad reported our District Governor will not be able to be with us so Brad will present a program on Rotary and Polio Now.
Raffle
Dave Evans said the raffle/pool prize continues to grow to $392.50. The pool will take next week off and instead we will be doing something to raise money to combat polio.
Program
From Prospect Park Living Center, Resident and Family Services Director Alyssa Bergman informed us about preparing Advance Directives to our families and medical authorities to convey our wishes in the event of our death or incapacitation. Ann Lundquist also answered questions as social worker for hospice home care. They handed out information and forms we can use to set these up. The “Five Wishes” documents are a good comprehensive source. They are all available at Prospect Park.
To close the meeting Scott Thompson reported JR Robertson is now at home with 24/7 nurse care. His colon tumor was removed but he now has an elevated PSA and is not ambulatory. He would welcome visitors.
