Platte River Power Authority is a not-for-profit, community-owned public power generation and transmission utility that provides safe, reliable, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable energy and services to Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland. In 2018, Platte River's board of directors approved the Resource Diversification Policy, which directs Platte River to proactively work toward the goal of achieving a 100% noncarbon energy mix by 2030 while maintaining Platte River’s three pillars of providing reliable, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable electricity and services. Platte River is currently developing its 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), whereby it is modeling different generation portfolios with support from independent advisors and subject matter experts, as well as input from the public to create reliable baseload generation using clean energy resources. This presentation will provide a general overview of Platte River’s history, governance structure, footprint, and generation portfolio; describe the IRP process; and discuss the progress toward and challenges of transitioning to a 100% noncarbon energy mix.
Javier C. Camacho was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He joined Platte River Power Authority in July 2022 as the Director of public and external affairs, strategic communications and social marketing. He previously served as the Strategic Communications and Community Relations manager for El Paso Electric, a privately-owned, fully integrated electric utility that serves southern New Mexico and west Texas. Javier began his career as a high school history teacher in Philadelphia, PA and New York City, NY. It was during his tenure in education that he learned the power of information and empowering people with education. So he took a leap and became a freelance journalist writing for publications like The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and El Paso Times and became a social media marketer in the early 2010s. He returned to El Paso where he worked to tell the southwest city’s story of resilience and innovation with organizations like the City of El Paso, El Paso Water, and the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso.

We have no meetings scheduled on June 20th or June 27th, our usual practice after President’s Night.
But if we skip July 4th, that would mean no meetings between June 13th and July 11th.
She asked if the club would like to meet on Thursday, June 27th.

Board Accepts New Member Application
Rick Life
Rick Life was a Rotarian with our Club back in the early 2000s. Rick estimated he was a member from about 2006 to 2011. He wants to resume his membership and the Board has unanimously approved his application. Previously he oversaw the Rotary International Student Exchange Program and was on the Estes Valley Board of Directors.
Officer Life was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He attended the University of Northern Colorado, holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from the University of Colorado Boulder and attended Northwestern University. He has served with the Estes Park Police Department since 1998. Currently, Rick is a Captain with the Estes Park Police Department.
His law enforcement career began as a Corrections Officer with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in Greeley, CO. He is certified in Homicide Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Traffic Accident Investigation, Equine Abuse Investigation, and Leadership in Police Organizations. In addition, Rick is a Law Enforcement Driving Instructor, an FBI Defensive Tactics Instructor, SWAT Operator, FBI Hostage Negotiator and formerly practiced as a Taser Instructor and Intoxilyzer Instructor. He is a recipient of the Life Saving Award. He led the team that produced the first Estes Park Marathon and currently serves on the board of directors for the Estes Park Rooftop Rodeo.
Rick is married to Sandee, a school teacher at Estes Park School District R-3 and has a daughter, Lexie.
According to club bylaws, if there are no objections within seven days of publication, the applicant shall be considered elected to membership.
Community Service Meeting April 11, 2024
Dear Community Service Committee Members,
We will be having a Community Service Committee meeting on Thursday, April 11, right after the regular Rotary meeting ends at 1:00 p.m. Dave Boon has brought us a potentially exciting project to help fund construction of a community garden for residents of the Falcon Ridge Apartments to grow their own vegetables, and he will be at our Committee meeting to answer questions. Please see details in the email I sent out on 3/22 and try to attend the Committee meeting on April 11. If we vote to approve the requested funding, then I will present that recommendation to the Board at their meeting on the first Tuesday in May.

Gladys Van Drie was a Past President to our club as well as Assistant Governor to our 5440 District. She passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31st. A Celebration of Life will be held for her on June 8th for 1 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome to Rotary International (http://www.rotary.org), Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park (http://www.crossroadsep.org).
