Scott Webermeier

Scott comes to us on Thursday with a background of community service.  He has lived in Estes Park for 55 years and been active in Community affairs for 40 years.  (See his Biography: Scott Webermeier + Estes Park Town Board - Candidates)
Today, he speaks to us as a board member of Visit Estes Park and Mayor Pro Temp.

Larimer County, the Town of Estes Park, and Visit Estes Park are working together to help ensure that community members have access to affordable workforce housing and childcare options. One of the most significant barriers to ensuring this access is a consistent and meaningfully-sized funding mechanism.
During the 2022 Colorado Legislative Session, a mechanism emerged for the Estes Park Local Marketing District, in collaboration with Larimer County and the Town of Estes Park, to expand the use of local lodging tax revenue to address gaps in the need for workforce housing and childcare.
Known as HB22-1117, the Colorado House passed the bill in February and the Colorado Senate passed it in March. The governor signed the bill into law on March 31, 2022. The bill is scheduled to become law 90 days after the end of the legislative session. For the legislation to be applicable to the local community, there must be a ballot initiative where voters in the local marketing district decide whether to authorize the use of new or existing lodging tax revenue for investments in workforce housing and childcare.

Update by President Dennis Gellhaus

I don’t know exactly why I started thinking about Salvation Army bell ringing in the middle of summer; but I did!  Standing in front of Safeway while the cold wind blows through you is not the most pleasant of things to do.  But then a nice lady brought me out a hot chocolate and life got a little better.  Maybe you have had this experience; I hope so!

In the days that followed, I returned the favor three times to other bell ringers.  It is such a good feeling to give of yourself and do something to make the world a little better.  That’s what I like about Rotary.

Thanks for listening.
Dennis
