September 22, 2022 Meeting Notes

Board Approves New Member Application
Tim Moore
Tim Moore and his wife Sharon retired from careers with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services in January 2022. He had worked there for 36 ½ years and held the position of Assistant Administrator since 1997. He had been responsible for directing several departments, overseeing contracts and managing both large and small projects. From 2010 to 2014 Tim led a large project to plan, design, construct and relocate a large outpatient clinic facility to replace an aging former hospital campus. He also led the development of three new community-based satellite medical clinics.
Tim married Sharon July 3, 1993 and they have five children: Jennifer, Melissa, Justin, Jessica and Travis.
On his application for membership Tim wrote “My work in a large public health care system was directed at improving access to health care services for a population either without health insurance or that relied on public programs for health care. I enjoy teamwork and collaboration and I look forward to utilizing my experience in managing projects and working effectively with committees and other groups to further my commitment to community service as a Rotarian.”
According to club bylaws, if there are no objections within seven days of publication, the applicant shall be considered elected to membership.
Stanley Home Museum Rotary Social September 29, 2022

Director Janet Dorr and a group of 10 knowledgeable volunteers at the Stanley Home led a tour for 35 members of our Club last Thursday night. The beauty and history of the home F.O. Stanley and his wife Flora had built in 1903 was brought to life through touring each of the rooms and hearing the stories of their pioneering efforts in the Estes Valley.
Did you know F.O. Stanley had a twin brother F. E. Stanley? The two of them were entrepreneurs from the age of four. Volunteers related many interesting stories of Stanley’s innovations, including designing and developing the home and its outbuildings, the Stanley Hotel, and their many other contributions to the Estes Valley. Examples of their generosity include a water system they devised and then they shared with neighbors and the power plant they had built that brought electricity to the valley.
The Stanley Home nonprofit has exciting plans for further development of this historic attraction. Visiting the home is an exciting educational opportunity for your visitors. To take advantage of the warm hospitality of this historic venue, sign up for a tour at https://www.stanleyhome.org.

Estes Park Rotary Donates to Crossroads Ukrainian Resettlement Fund

Dennis Gellhaus, President of the Estes Park Rotary Club, presented a $3,000 check to Brian Schaffer, Executive Director of Crossroads Ministry, and Crossroads Client Advocate Jess Borries on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022
This donation from Rotary Foundation funds is the first step in collaboration between the E.P. Rotary Club and Crossroads Ministry to assist Ukrainians relocating to the Estes Valley. The Rotary club was approached recently by a local resident seeking support for Ukrainians arriving in town this month. Working together with Crossroads, a Ukrainian Resettlement Fund was established at Crossroads. Jess Borries, Crossroads Client Advocate, will direct the distribution of the fund to meet Ukrainian immigrant needs not met by Crossroads or other agencies.
Crossroads has already been helping new arrivals. Crossroads purchased clothing for students, gave thrift store vouchers to the families, assisted with rent and security deposit, English class costs, and reimbursement for employment authorization applications.
These families are also able to access Crossroads' food pantry. Along with Bright Christmas and Estes Park School District, Rotarians are making sure the incoming Ukrainian students have everything they need to enter school, including school supplies. Referrals to the Department of Human Services and other local partners are being given to each family as well.
Crossroads Executive Director Brian Schaffer said, “We are pleased to receive this check from the Rotary Club as it will strengthen our ongoing efforts to support needs of newly arriving families.”
President Dennis Gellhaus added, “This donation further confirms the role of Rotary in service to the community. We are really pleased that Crossroads has taken the lead for meeting the needs of newly arriving Ukrainians.”

The article begins "Wayne Newsom of Gifford-Hill & Co., Inc, was named president of the Fort Morgan Rotary Club Tuesday. Newsom, 1972-73 president elect, was advanced to the presidency by the resignation of President John Hopper..."

Friday, September16, 2023 44 players teed off in support of the Rotary Club of Estes Park. Over $20,000 was raised from this event with a portion of each golfer entry fee added to the business and individual donors to the tournament.

For each of the past five events, Estes Park Seniors received between $30,000 and $44,000 in Rotary Club Scholarships for continuing education at vocational schools, community colleges, and four-year universities. Thanks to the participants and generous sponsors (businesses and individuals) Scholarships are POSITIVE evidence of community support for advanced education.
