Jan. 16 meeting notes
President Doug Mann called the meeting to order. He thanked Scott and Karen Thompson for the fun social at their house Saturday. 20 attended. Doug recognized Pete Sumey’s Rotary membership anniversary. Doug reminded us next Thursday is the monthly meeting for our committees to meet. Doug also reminded us to buy our Friendship Card for local discounts.
Invocation was given by Jennifer Comstock. Then Madison Casey led us in singing “America” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Introductions were led by Carl Robicheaux: Visiting Rotarians: Jean Rissmiller was here from Sunrise Rotary as sponsor of Antonia, our exchange student. She said that Antonia had class today, but reported that she had a ski lesson on Sunday. She has Chilean dinner raffle tickets for sale to fund her trip west with other exchange students. Doug reminded us that our Happy Money this month is also going to that purpose. Guest of Rotarians: Scott Thompson introduced Beth Weisberg, who is interested in joining our club. Dave Boon was happy that his wife June was here today. Anne Slack introduced our Town Clerk, Jackie Williamson, and her associates Kimberly Disney and Bunny Beers, who came with our guest speaker today, our County Clerk.
Scott Thompson delivered his joke, which was above average for him.
Scott Thompson chairs the Duck Race Sponsors and reminded us that sponsors are needed to cover $18,000 of the $25,000 of total expenses. He gave us an example of how an ordinary meeting with someone was an opportunity to ask for a sponsorship
Happy Money
Pete Sinnott was happy Ward Nelson was running for Town Trustee.
Ron Gordon said it was nice to have Rotary Socials again and thanked the Thompsons for hosting at their home last Saturday.
Karol Rinehart was happy to have Brad Rosenbaum back with us.
Bill Smith was happy that our guest speaker, Angela Myers, made it today in spite of her cold. Otherwise, Bill feared he would have to fill in.
Trudy Collar was happy to be a part owner of the Green Bay Packers and roots them on to victory this week vs the San Francisco 49ers to make it to the Super Bowl.
Karen Thompson pointed out that Wayne Newsom’s anniversary in our club acknowledged last week was only part of the story—Wayne has been a Rotarian since 1967, well before he got to Estes Park.
Wayne Newsom was happy that Karen was happy.
Brad Rosenbaum said that reading is difficult to teach in home schooling so he is elated that his 7-year-old is reading books on his own now.
Guy Vander Werf is happy that his mother-in-law is now settled in assisted living here in Estes Park and so his wife is back home after moving her here.
Dave Boon countered Trudy’s happy money, as his son works for the San Francisco 49ers.

Ron Gordon reported that Cheryl Taylor has died. She was wife of David Taylor, the prior president of Bank of Estes Park. They had retired to Texas.
Anne Slack reported that Jack Overly is making a slow recovery. He will remain at Medical Center of the Rockies for two weeks, and then move to Northern Colorado Rehab.
Program
Anne Slack introduced our program—Angela Myers, Larimer County Clerk/Recorder. She gave us an entertaining education on the functions of her office by fielding our questions and topics of interest. Many of these were about elections that her office manages.

Rotary Quote of the Week
"The Rotary Foundation is not to build monuments of brick and stone. If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds…we are engraving on those tablets something that will brighten all eternity.”
