Our Speaker this week, Mark Solomon, will be talking about the Veterans Community Project. It is dedicated to supporting every man and woman who took the oath for our country. It is determined to make a difference in the lives of homeless Veterans, a task accomplished by the community for the community.
Veterans Community Project is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by a group of combat veterans in Kansas City, Missouri who resolved to stand in the gaps of a broken system that left too many of their brothers and sisters behind. Our staff assists Veterans with navigating the VA and their benefits, identification services, mental and physical health referrals, financial counseling, and employment supports among other services.
VCP Village is a planned tiny home community designed to get homeless Veterans off the street and transition them to permanent housing.
VCP has a long-term goal of eliminating Veteran homelessness nationwide. Using Kansas City as the blueprint for achieving similar successes in cities across the United States, Veterans Community Project has officially begun its expansion starting with Longmont, Colorado; St. Louis, Missouri; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The holidays will soon be upon us and my hope is that everyone will be able to spend quality time with family and friends.
Our lunch this Thursday will be a pre-Thanksgiving meal.
Thursday is the last day to donate to your favorite non-profit and receive matching funds from our Foundation.
Beth Weisberg is receiving donations for Bright Christmas.
We have “adopted” a family with 5 children, so please consider a gift by December 1st.
Salvation Army bell ringers are signing up! See Pete Sinnott or go to the Crossroads Ministry website.
We are looking for 2 or 3 more Rotarians to on occasion be willing to set up our speaker system ahead of our meeting. This only takes 5 minutes to set up and take down.

I ran to Safeway on Saturday morning and was greeted by a group of school kids and sponsors at the door. I said, “what’s up”, and they handed me a list of food they were wanting to collect. After doing a little “extra” shopping I handed them a sack on the way out. We have been blessed with so much! How grateful it is to give back! And what a blessing to serve with the Rotary Club of Estes Park.

President Dennis Gellhaus called the meeting to order.

Pete Sinnott announced Salvation Army bell ringing time is approaching this year, with major changes. Gordon Slack has retired from chairing this organization for so many years. Now Crossroads Ministry will administer this for the Salvation Army
Bell Ringing begins Thanksgiving weekend and then weekly Wednesdays thru Sundays, 11:00 AM-5:00 PM

Jim Whiteneck invited veterans to the Legion on Friday for free breakfast; 3:00 ceremony at the Veterans’ Monument at the Visitors’ Center; evening steak dinner at the Legion for only $17.

2022 Matching Charitable Donation Program
Due Date: November 17, 2022
The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation is conducting a matching charitable donation program this fall to supplement donations to local non-profits.
The maximum matching donation amount is $150 per member and the minimum donation amount is $50. Rotary Club of Estes Park members will be able to apply for matching donations from the Foundation between October 13 and November 17, 2022.
The Foundation will be providing matching donations to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations serving Estes Valley residents and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State.
The application form which provides detailed instructions is available on the club website and will be available at the weekly club meetings. You will also be receiving an email with the application form attached.

I am a first generation Rotarian. I joined shortly after my husband, Doug, served as club President. With the international travel of my non-profit job, I’m now aware of the impact of Rotary around the globe. I’ve witnessed what Rotary does to help people, at home and abroad, particularly making a difference alongside Nehemiah Gateway’s work in Albania. The club’s involvement has improved the lives of many Albanian children, and their families. I am honored to have Ron Gordon as my sponsor. He leads the International committee. Through him and the rest of the International committee, I’ve seen how this club has a passion to help people everywhere. I’ve been so impressed and am grateful to be part of such an organization, and this club in particular.

Dear Rotary Club of Estes Park members and friends,
The family our Rotary Club has “adopted” for Bright Christmas this year has five children ages 9 - 17, a mom, and a dad. We are going to need everyone’s help to meet this family’s need/wish list, so if you are able to buy gifts or gift cards, or simply contribute money to help purchase these items, any and all amounts are welcome and needed. If you would rather donate money than do shopping, please make checks payable to Beth Weisberg, let her know what to expect, and she will order what is needed. All gifts or cash donations must be turned in by no later than Thursday, December 1, so we need to get started right away. Please do not wrap anything – we will need to see what we have, to be sure all 5 kids receive relatively equal amounts from their need and wish lists. If you can provide gift bags or wrapping paper, that will help, too! Sometime between December 2 – 5, we will have a wrapping party. We will then turn in everything together, wrapped and labeled, to Bright Christmas on Tuesday, December 6.

We don’t have a lot of time, with Thanksgiving in the middle of this, and this is a large family (which we requested, at the suggestion of the Community Service Committee), so everyone please do what you can to help our brighten this family’s holiday!
