Being in Costa Rica for 10 days, we didn’t pay much attention to world news, but the earthquake in Turkey caught our attention. The thought of people being pulled from the rubble days after the tragedy was unbelievable! With the needs so great, District Rotary is asking for help in mounting an effort for relief to this disaster. I hope our International Service committee will look into this and provide what we can to help.
This week committee meetings will meet if necessary.

February 16, 2023 Meeting Notes
President Dennis Gellhaus rang the bell at 11:58 AM. Karol Rinehart gave the Invocation. Dennis led the Pledge of Allegiance. Madison Casey led the song “Let me call you sweetheart.”
Announcements: The Foundation Board will meet at 1:30 at the Quality Inn. The Duck Race Committee will meet today at the Wasson Room in the library at 5:00.
President Gellhaus introduced Chris Bieker, District Manager, Suzanne Jurgens, Assistant District Manager, and Matt Allen, Operations Manager of the Upper Thompson Sanitation District. They spoke about an upcoming vote that would provide funds for a new Water Reclamation Facility.

Happy Money: Dennis Gellhaus is happy to be home. Mike Connolly is happy that the telescope will be back in service at the Observatory in April. Gary Nelson is happy that he’s here in Estes and not on the road in a storm.
Program: Mel Rueppel introduced Jane Stewart, an Occupational Therapist. Her program was a discussion of a Memory Café for people (with spouses or friends) who are experiencing memory issues due to any form of dementia. The Café meets at St. Bart’s Church on the second Thursday of each month. If you want to become involved, call Jane at 970-430-8105.

Chris Davis
Chris brings 20+ years of experience working with families and individuals to The Thompson Group. For much of his career, Chris served as a Presbyterian Pastor to congregations in St. Louis, Milwaukee, and most recently at Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park. He has been a real estate advisor for the past two years in Boulder County as well as in Estes Park. Whether as a pastor or realtor, Chris has guided people through all types of transitions: graduations, weddings, births, retirement, relocation, and the loss of loved ones. Chris understands the importance of being a good listener who strives to meet the needs of others while maintaining a professional presence of clarity, perspective, and guidance.
Chris enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the great outdoors of Colorado. When he is not connecting with friends in real estate, he can be found horseback riding or skiing (depending on the season) with his daughter, playing golf with his son, or hiking the countless trails of Larimer County with his wife, Rita. Along with joining Rotary, Chris is also a board member of Crossroads Ministry.

Duck Race Preparation Report
Have you ever seen a duck fly at warp speed? Well, you are about to!
We are ramping up our Duck Race 2023 efforts.
The kick-off meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in Salon F at the Ridgeline Hotel.
A proclamation will be read by Mayor Koenig designating May 6, 2023 as Estes Park Rotary Duck Race Day,
Presentations on
how the race will be run,
how to solicit duck adoptions online,
and how to pitch for volunteers from participating organizations.
we will be enticing participating organizations with pizza to be served a 5:00 p.m.
The theme of this year’s race is “Racin’ on the River”
We now have 2023 duck Race buttons
The Duck Race poster will be finalized in the next couple of weeks.
We will have two partners in helping us with the Race
Visit Estes Park will be leading our publicity efforts
The Estes Park Chamber of Commerce will be partnering again with merchant prize solicitation.

Our group of active Duck Race Committee members have been instrumental in keeping us on track
The last thing I will say for now is here at Rotary we espouse Service above Self. As we keep that in mind moving forward with this year’s Duck Race, we will have plenty of opportunities and need for volunteers both within our club and outside it!

This medallion came from Annette F. King. She wrote: Ladies and Gentlemen: I have been going through my mother's things after her passing and found the enclosed medallion. Although my grandfather was a Rotarian in Florida, I have no interest in keeping the item. I hope that your club will consider it to be a part of your history.
