Jeff Liddle & K9 Kismet
Jeff Liddle is a volunteer K9 handler for Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS) and Larimer County Search and Rescue. Jeff and K9 Kismet are certified through SARDUS as a live find trailing team, as a land cadaver search team, and as a water search team. They were recently featured on “Out Alive,” Backpacker Magazine’s podcast series (https://www.backpacker.com/survival/out-alive-podcast/). When they are not on SAR missions, you might see Kismet and Jeff training in the Estes Valley where they live.
Attendees can expect a brief overview of the different types of search dogs, working dog characteristics, canine olfactory system overview, and the various aspects of SAR K9 missions. K9 Kismet will be in attendance and will do a quick demo as well.

So far, cross your fingers; the forecast for the Duck Race is looking very favorable! Special thanks to everyone who helped clean up the town and for all the volunteers that work so hard to make this such a tremendous event! It takes a village!

Meeting Notes for April 27, 2023

Announcements:
Little Duck Scott Robbins announced that the Duck Race breakfast will be held at the American Legion.
Scott is wearing the vest from Wayne Anderson.
Duck sponsorships are rolling in.
Tara Moenning encouraged members to support the town cleanup on Saturday.
Beth Weisberg reminded members of the group work projects at MacGregor Ranch during the District Conference.
President Dennis announced the club board meeting is moved to May 9.
Longley Parker will be arriving in Estes Park tomorrow.
Jim Whiteneck reported that our club is the number one contributor to the District 5440 Foundation.

Happy Money:
Pete Sumey reported that he and wife Lois recently visited with Melony Wasson during her recent visit to Estes Park.
She is the wife of the late Al Wasson who had written today's devotion
She is living in Muncie, Indiana near family, and enjoys good health.
Scott Robbins gave heartfelt thanks to members who are working on the Duck Race.
Karen Thompson recognized a group that includes Gray Rueppel, wife of Mel, who are working on providing new Duck Race vests for new volunteers.
Carl Robicheaux found two little rubber ducks along a river bank on the golf course.
Karen Thompson says that when she visits the town's Visitors Center the staff usually have a bag of rubber ducks that have been turned in by visitors.

Jack Ford Returns to Noon Rotary
Jack Ford returns to Estes Park
Jack Ford returned to Estes Park last September after missing his “home." He purchased Ray and Cindy Leaycraft’s condo (Sunrise Rotary) just off the sixth fairway on the golf course – watch out when you’re sitting on his deck! Jack is a widower twice-over, the proud parent of three children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was a Communications- Maintenance Office in the USAF 1962-67. He was ordained in the Episcopalian Church in 1970 and has served congregations in Maryland (2), Nebraska (5), and Colorado (1). He retired for the first time the last day in 2005. During the Rector’s sabbatical at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, he served as the unofficial Interim from Ash Wednesday-Pentecost 2006. He was received in traditional Anglican Communion on 5/11/2008. He has served twice as the interim at St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, Little Valley, first from 2012 to 2013 and then again 2018-2019.
Jack’s hobbies are walking, hiking, bird watching, listening to music, and reading. He served as a trustee at the Estes Valley Library 2008 to 2012.
Jack has a history of being in a Rotarian family with his paternal grandfather, father and oldest daughter Jennifer, all Rotarians. Before moving to Colorado, he was in Rotary Clubs in Kearney and Beatrice Nebraska. When he was in our club before, he tracked and encouraged Paul Harris Fellowships and would like to resumethat job.

Scholarship Awards Night

The Scholarship Awards Night is scheduled for May 11th, starting at 6 pm in the High School Auditorium. All Rotarians are welcome to attend to acknowledge and commend our graduating scholarship winners.
Community Clean Up Day Successful!
Beautiful weather, lots of people, grateful neighbors
Goal: Utilize low-tech, processed based restoration techniques (gather materials already present on the ranch and prepare to hand build mock beaver dams in stream) to restore the riparian habitat of Black Canyon Creek.
Restore channel connectivity and raise the water table
Improve water quality
Improve riparian and aquatic habitat
Description: Collect materials from ranch property
to create faux dams and
clear areas of the creek thatimproperly impede water flow.
Project 2: Aspen and Ponderosa Trail Restoration
Goal: Restore educational trails on the south side of MacGregor property.
Each former trail is marked and includes scenic/educational points of interest.
Expand educational access on historic ranch property
Description: Rake and remove debris from former trails to
re-establish the three mile and one mile loop routes.
Outline trails with materials gathered from the property, i.e., rocks, branches, etc., where necessary.
Project 3:
(In Case of Rain) Historic Barn Interior Whitewash
Goal: Revitalize the historic spirit of the early 1900’s barn
to best illustrate the lifestyle and
hard work of the MacGregor family.
Create a historically accurate preservation of the function milking room space
Description: Clean and repaint barn interior avoiding the structural pitch logs
