Come and Meet Lori Spalsbury, Los Alamos National Laboratory
Lori Spalsbury
Lori Spalsbury graduated from Estes Park High School and subsequently attended Caltech where she studied astro-physics and geo-physics. After a ‘gap year’ of teaching high school mathematics in the Alaska bush, Lori went on to complete her masters degree in astrophysics at UMaine. Since then, Lori has served in various roles on numerous NASA and NOAA missions, including as operations lead and scientific researcher on the Juno mission to Jupiter; data analyst and processor on the MAVEN Mars orbiter; flight software test engineer on the James Webb Space Telescope; and payload instrument subject matter expert on the GOES and JPSS weather satellites. Lori currently works for Los Alamos National Laboratory where she continues to work on scientific and national security space missions in a wide range of capacities.
Presentation Topic: Space Mission Architecture
Lori will present an overview of the high-level design and implementation of a space mission as defined by its mission objective, independent of whether the objective is driven by science, national security, or commercial industry.
Our program on July 17th will be held in person, but a Zoom link will be provided.

Tom Maher is happy for his 90th birthday party with his extended family and a former Rotary exchange student, and for receiving a Wright Brothers Master Pilot award from the F.A.A.

Meeting Recording July 10, 2025
SoYoung presented the program titled "Rocky Ridge Music: Its Beginnings, Present, and Future". The meeting recording includes an amazing violin solo by RRM Faculty member Sahana Shravan (at the 18:00 minute mark) that was followed by a standing ovation! If you missed the meeting, check out this great performance.

Just reminders about the Estes Recycles Day and the John Denver Tribute Concert. We need to be concentrating on the sponsors for the concert right now, as we have to get the information for the “slide show” to Mark Lee by the 10th of August as he is designing the video.
Don’t miss this Saturday’s Estes Recycle Day event, Event Center parking lot, August 9th, 9-noon, whether volunteering or taking the opportunity to “clean out those files, the garage, or the storage shed”. Annie will be collecting assistive devices for Crutches4Africra.
We could still use a couple of more volunteers for the John Denver Tribute Concert: labeling seats, ushering, and clean up.

Historic Mining Tour is right around the corner!
When: Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Where: Meet at the Estes Park Parking Garage
Cost: $40/person
Don't miss out! July 26 will be here before you know it! For a mere $40, you can get all your questions about hard rock mining in north central Colorado answered, experience a fine lunch at a casino in Central City, and have free admission to the Gilpin County Museum. Transportation will be provided. Local historian and Rotarian Neal Standard has graciously offered to lead our tour of mining town and other points of interest between Estes Park and Central City, on Saturday, July 26.
Neal is a former high school History teacher, a longtime member and officer of the Gilpin County Historic Society, a docent for the Gilpin County Museum, perhaps most importantly, was an organizer and portrayer of famous persons interred at the cemetery. You had me at the word "interred"!
Once we are on the road, we will have stops in Meeker Park, Ward, Nederland, and, of course, Central City and Blackhawk, including the Gilpin County Museum.

Interact Clubs
Youth Service Director is a wonderful position if you enjoy working with students. This is a Board position as Chair. Our Bylaws state: “the Youth/Vocational Service Directorate develops and implements projects that are related to youth, schools, and career development.” We want to support our Interact program that we share with Sunrise Rotary. You will be bringing in an Inbound Exchange Student, as well as sending an Outbound Exchange student to another country. This is such an important position to help show our youth the fun and benefits of Rotary. You will meet very special students in the process.
