Longtime local technology consultant Lee Lasson will present "Passwords, Passcodes, Passkeys – Oh My!," a practical cybersecurity talk for home users and small businesses, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM at American Legion Post #119, Estes Park.
Lasson will cover what everyone needs to know to stay safe online: passwords and password managers, passkeys, malware, the importance of updates, and how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping cybersecurity — for the better, if we can manage it. "My new job title may well be ‘AI Overseer,’" he quips.
Lasson has spent more than 40 years at the front lines of personal computing. He built Estes Park’s first dial-up Bulletin Board System in the early 1980s, brought early websites to the Town of Estes Park, the Chamber of Commerce, and the YMCA of the Rockies, and served as Associate Director of IT at the YMCA. Today he is President of FrontDesk, Inc., providing WordPress hosting and technical services to businesses and nonprofits, working alongside his daughter Cassie. A Rotary Club of Estes Park member since 2003, he has supported the Duck Race with technology for 23 years.
"I’ve learned cybersecurity as a necessity to survive on the web," Lasson says. "Come hear what you need to know — because what you don’t know can hurt you."

Community Service Committee Meeting
The Community Service Committee will meet on Thursday, July 23, immediately after the regular noon Rotary meeting, at the American Legion. We will be discussing and voting on a potential Project funds award to provide scholarships for people who need dementia day services from EDDC but cannot afford to pay the fees. Please try to attend this meeting if you are on the Community Service Committee – – all views and votes are needed.

Shoes for Ukrainian Children Who Have Lost Their Fathers
This week the Rotary Club Foundation of Zamosc, Poland, received their $2,000 wire transfer from our International Community Service Funds generated by Friendship Card sales. Ryszard Lucyn, President of the Zamosc Club and coordinator of the Children's Health Program for children who have lost their fathers, said that the money will go to new shoes for kids in the retreats (35 at a time). He'll send photos so we can see the results of this work. Children have only been getting recycled shoes during the 4 years of the war, especially with shortages at the frontline in newly liberated towns and safe houses. Thanks to all for our EP Friendship Card and the merchants who sell them.

Tickets for the John Denver Tribute Concert on Aug. 22 are selling well online, and now they are also available “in person”. Cash and checks will be accepted at McDonald’s Bookstore and the Visitors’ Center. Tickets are $40 and $45.
Renovations have been made to Ruesch Hall at the YMCA. Handrails up the center aisles and new lighting provide a pleasing addition to this beautiful venue.

Lee is a resident of the Retreat in Glen Haven, CO since 1976. In 1982, while working as a small business consultant, he saw the power of spreadsheets applied to small business financial projections. He bought a computer with a 3” screen about the size of a sewing machine and started providing consulting services. The computer became the focus of his career. Lee often quips, “I haven’t worked a day in my life since I fell in love with computers.”
Before pursuing his career, computers and computer communications were his hobby. He built Estes Park’s first dial-up Bulletin Board System while working at Pratt’s Office supply on a not really IBM PC compatible Victor 9000. While working at the Loveland Computer Center, Lasson started a FidoNet BBS. FidoNet predates the modern World Wide Web and the mainstream Internet. It was launched in 1983 as a way for separate, stand-alone Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) to communicate with one another using standard phone lines and modems. While most folks still had party lines in Glen Haven and nearly everywhere was a long-distance call, Lasson ordered US West to install a Foreign Exchange Telephone line from Boulder’s Main switch with a 303-area code allowing for toll free calls to and from his BBS physically located in the Retreat. Lee’s On-Line Consulting BBS became a searchable database of computer professionals used by freelancers to attract work and for businesses to find technical talent.
Lee loves troubleshooting computer problems and helping people with their computers. Decades ago, he co-founded the Estes Park Computer Users Group, which met monthly to share computer information, and was a frequent presenter there. He continued with the group through the advent of the Internet, when it rebranded as the Estes Park Internet Computer Users Group (EPICUG), and the meetings explored many aspects and rabbit holes of the World Wide Web.
Lasson specialized in modem communications by starting On-Line Consulting. He worked as the Director of Communications for the Boulder based Investor’s Resource International using Telenet’s worldwide communications network to deliver market advisory services to subscribers. He became Executive Vice President of InfoVision, Inc, another Boulder based startup where he developed and managed pay per call information systems using Audiotext Voice Response and Fax Broadcast systems located in LA, Dallas, and Orlando.
Then the World Wide Web (WWW) happened and he embraced the technology starting FrontDesk, Inc to serve many businesses with their early websites. Forward-thinking organizations like the Town of Estes Park, the Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA of the Rockies, and Eagle Rock School were early adopters of the web.
At the YMCA of the Rockies, Lee worked as Associate Director of IT allowing him to play with systems he had only dreamed of. Now Lee is with FrontDesk, Inc. fulltime, providing technical services to businesses, including many nonprofits in Colorado and beyond. Lee works with his daughter Cassie Lasson providing graphic design and creative services to clients. They specialize in WordPress hosting on managed Virtual Private Servers (VPS). FrontDesk runs an e-commerce pay-per-call information delivery system marketed as, StockMarketHotline.com.
Lee Lasson has been a member of the Rotary Club of Estes Park since 2003 and has been active helping with the Great Estes Park Rotary Duck Race for 23 years mostly focused on technology. Recently he served as the eMail Duck answering and routing email for Duck Central. In 2026 the 38th annual duck race raised $193,430 for over 70 local organizations. Lasson has served on nonprofit boards including the founding board of the Local Area Marketing District (LMD) that became Visit Estes Park (VEP) and the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center (EPNRC).
