June 13 meeting highlights
President Dave Evans called his last regular meeting to order. We will not meet next Thursday as Friday, June 21 is the President’s Night Changing of the Guard banquet. Tell Karol as soon as possible if you can attend. President Dave said at President’s Night we will recognize the board and foundation members so today he wanted to thank: new members for choosing our club, sponsors & mentors of the new members, board members, committee chairs, and committee members. He said this probably included everyone in our club.
Dave then gave the invocation. Pete Sumey led us singing “In the Good Old Summertime” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Dave also led the introductions: We welcomed visiting Rotarian Jim Whiteneck of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, who just moved to town. Dana Fritz introduced Christine Farrel of Estes who was visiting us to hear her daughter’s program today.
Happy Money
Richard Kimple was happy to have finally sold his house in Kansas after a long wait and then just missing the flood there.
Dana Fritz was happy that Gladys Van Drie was here today.
Kevin Mullin was happy that his son successfully completed his second year in college.

Sign up to sponsor the golf tournament
Register to play on a foursome
Saturday, June 29 is fast approaching, so it's time to show your support for your club's 23rd Annual Rotary Golf Tournament for Scholarships. Play golf, enjoy a Smokin' Dave's lunch, win prizes, be a sponsor - so many choices!
The whole idea is to raise funds for our Foundation Scholarship Fund. Annually, our club raises $24,000 for three, four-year academic scholarships for graduating Estes Park high school students. We recently awarded a total of $34,630 in academic and memorial scholarships to 11 members of the class of 2019.
The tournament will be held at the 18-hole Estes Park Golf Course. The fun begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The cost to play is $100. The cost to sponsor begins at $75. Your help is needed!
Sponsorship levels include: Named Scholarship Sponsor ($2,500 and above); Diamond Sponsor ($2,000); Gold Sponsor ($1,000); Silver Sponsor ($500); Bronze Sponsor ($250); Tee/Green Sponsor ($110; and Junior Golfer Sponsor ($75). Names of sponsors pledging $110 or more are displayed at the tournament and included in publicity prior to the event. In addition, sponsors who commit to $250 or more receive between one and eight complimentary player registrations, according to sponsorship level.
For information on how to sign on as a sponsor, please call Jay Harroff (970-227-3856) or Ron Gordon (970-586-0370) or download forms from our club website.
Farmers Market: show your Rotary spirit
Our Community Service has begun at the Farmers Market every Thursday morning in Bond Park, and you are invited to be a part of it.
Jim Austin has been the 'face of Rotary' to Vicki and the vendors at the market. When Jim leaves in mid July, we will need a "point person" each week to coordinate us with Vicki each Thursday. Can you help do that?
Furthermore we need a couple of volunteers each Thursday. Yes, the market is open through 1:00 p.m. so you will get meeting credit if you work at the market during the Rotary meeting.
This effort keeps Rotary in front of people we know in Estes - and the visitors.
If you are interested in volunteering you can think of it in one long shift or two shifts from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm on Thursdays. While helping with parking or loading where we can; the best part is ambassadorial by smiling and making the vendors and attendees to the market feel welcome in the Estes Park way.
Let me know if any dates appeal to you between now and through the last Thursday in September.
Thanks for considering a pleasurable opportunity for Community Service by our Club members. Let me know which Thursdays appeal to you. Neighbors, visitors and grandkids are always welcome to work along with you.

Invitation to all club members:
Join a Guatemala Literacy Project service trip
My name is Jim Hunt, and I am a past District Governor and member of the Rotary Club of Ohio Pathways (D-6600).Joe Berninger, founder of the Guatemala Literacy Project (GLP), and I are organizing Rotary service trips to Guatemala and we are looking for interested Rotarians.
The GLP is the largest grassroots, multi-club, multi-district effort in the Rotary world not directed by RI itself—the “gold standard” of Rotary projects, according to former RI President Ian Riseley. Over 600 Rotary clubs from eight countries have participated in the GLP since its inception in 1996. GLP Textbook, Computer, Teacher Training, and Youth Development programs currently serve more than 50,000 impoverished children. We need Rotarians to join the following service trips to Guatemala:
July 21-27, 2019
July 30-Aug 4, 2019
Nov 14-17, 2019
Feb 1-9, 2020
Feb 18-23, 2020
July 12-18, 2020
July 21-26, 2020
These trips offer a variety of experiences: Some are longer or shorter; some more “hands on”—and all of them give you the opportunity to be a meaningful part of Rotary’s work fighting poverty in Guatemala. Please visit the project’s website for more details. If you have any questions, you can email me at info@guatemalaliteracy.org.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Jim Hunt, PDG Rotary Club of Ohio Pathways (D-6600)
