Rut will present the important mission and work of EVICS.
EVICS was established in 2006 as a childcare scholarship program and evolved to serve the community as EVICS Family Resource Center. As a Family Resource Center, EVICS connects families and parents to resources throughout our community and across Larimer County. Through family development programs, mental health consultations, connection to resources, and of course, the childcare scholarship program, EVICS Family Resource Center is essential to family success in Estes Park.
Our program on September 26th will be held in person, but a Zoom link will be provided.

Lee Machin's memorial will be next Thursday from 1-4 at Machin's Cottages.
Beth Weisberg announced that the Community Service committee will meet today after 1:00 to discuss Bright Christmas.
Tim Moore thanked members for volunteering for Elk Fest, which is on Sept. 28-29. A few more people are needed, so please consider helping.

Can you believe it’s Fall already! With Fall comes the Elk Fest. Contact Tim Moore if you can work a shift at tkandslmoore@aol.com. It is a lot of fun to watch visitors and see the dancing of different American Indians from the area. Plus you are with your fellow Rotarians and special friendships grow from that time together.
That is also true when you attend a District Assembly. You meet Rotarians from around our District 5440 and can make lasting friendships. Of course, that is the way you end up volunteering for different positions like President-Elect! Be sure to support the Assembly up in Cheyenne October 12th.
Being a Rotarian is very special. I so enjoy meeting Rotarians like Neal Standard from Black Hawk, CO and Kent and Joan Bohls from Bastrop, Tx. We are a worldwide community of people with similar desires to serve.
Remember Lee Machin’s memorial service next Thursday at Machin Cottages, 2450 Eagle Cliff Road from 1 to 4 PM. We need to support a fellow Rotarian even if he was unable to attend meetings. He was a life-long Rotarian and contributed to our many fundraisers.

Elk Fest
Our Rotary Club is proud to once again support one of our community’s most cherished events – Elk Fest! Nestled in the heart of the scenic mountains, this vibrant festival is an annual celebration of wildlife, conservation, and community spirit. We have a long-standing tradition of supporting Elk Fest and this year, we’ll continue our involvement with helping to serve drinks at the Wallowing Hole.

It also provides an opportunity to build stronger community ties as we come together to celebrate something unique to our region. Feel Like Santa in September or October? Make Your Donation Now
On 9/19/24, the Community Service Committee met and decided that our club will "adopt" a family through Bright Christmas again this year. Adopting a family from Bright Christmas' list and providing all (or most) of the gifts that family has requested, helps Bright Christmas, too, since they don't have nearly enough staff/volunteers to shop to meet all of those requests.
In early November, Bright Christmas will provide us with the first name, age, and gender of each member of our assigned family, and a need/wish list for each person in that family. (The family remains anonymous, but Bright Christmas vets them to be sure they meet eligibility requirements.) Sometime before family assignments are made, we need an idea of about how much money our club members will be donating for this project, so we can tell Bright Christmas what size family we can commit to.
We know that some club members may donate to Bright Christmas directly, either by writing a check to our Club Foundation and getting the match that our Foundation will be offering in October for charitable donations, or by supporting their church or other organization's Bright Christmas collection. As valuable as those contributions will be for Bright Christmas, those donations cannot be used toward gifts for our adopted family. If you would like to contribute toward gifts for the Bright Christmas family that our Rotary Club will be adopting this year, we will be passing a collection can at our regular Thursday noon meetings starting next Thursday, 9/26, and on additional Thursdays through October.
To write a check to be used for gifts for our adopted family, please make your check payable to Rotary Club of Estes Park, and give it to Gregg Jurgens or put it in the collection can at our noon meeting. Please be sure to write "For Bright Christmas family" in the memo line on your check. Or, you can put any amount of cash into the collection can as it is passed around. Contributions of any size are welcome. All of the money we collect in this way will be used by Beth Weisberg to purchase items requested by our adopted family.
Once we receive the wish list, if anyone wants to purchase specific items on the list instead of donating cash, that's great, too. Beth will be coordinating, to ensure that there is no duplication and that we meet as many of the reasonable requests of our adopted family as possible.

Restoration Ranch - Colorado
Restoration Ranch - Colorado is a place that Kathryn Severns-Avery told us about during her presentation last December. She founded it after her husband was shot and killed. She turned her pain into establishing a place for first responders to attend for a respite. Her presentation was the one talk last year that all the members loved the most.
Kathryn is asking for financial help. Our Board wanted to see her place before deciding about a contribution. I was able to arrange a visit to Restoration Ranch - Colorado, October 25th from 9 until 4 PM. Unfortunately, many of the Board members are unable to go so I am asking if any of you would like to see the ranch. We have room for three people.
Steve Kruger and his wife Kayly are the caretakers. He is offering us a tour of the place as well as lunch. He has room for 15 people. Sunrise Rotary is joining us and already has 6 members signed up. I would like our Rotary equally well represented.
Restoration Ranch is located about an hour away. It is confidential where it is located but allowing for an hour each way plus lunch, figure on a full day event. We will be going in individual cars by car pool, I hope.
October 25th is also Pumpkin Distribution day, so some people will be coming later than 9 AM but should be able to join us, once they are at the ranch.
Again, the purpose is to see if this is a project we want to contribute funds to. It should be a wonderful experience.

Rotary ESRAG
Last Thursday we had guests Kent and Joan Bohls visit us from Bastrop, TX. They are both past Presidents of an E-club. Joan is part of ESRAG and spoke passionately about it. ESRAG stands for Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group! The group was formed to empower members of the Rotary Family worldwide to take actions to sustain our environment, particularly to stabilize the climate.
Their Mission is to inspire and empower the Rotary Family with extensive expertise, networks, education, and best practices to implement sustainable and impactful environmental projects.
