1) RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) - it is an award, a scholarship
2) That our Rocky Mountain RYLA was started in 1987 and was coed (52 girls and 53 boys) from the beginning
3) Since the beginning of our RYLA it has been held at the YMCA of the Rockies
4) That Rotary started allowing women to join Rotary Clubs in 1989, two years after we started our co-ed RYLA
5) That our Young RYLA was started in 2002, and was the 1st in the US and 2nd in the world
6) In 2015, when RI President Ravi visited CO he stated, "Rocky Mountain RYLA is leading the RI world in youth leadership."
7) Participants often say, "This has been a life change experience for me," "This has been the BEST week of my life," "THANK YOU Rotary!"
Come learn more about RYLA and YRYLA and hear first hand from the participants, counselors, and former Chairs on what this Rotary Youth Leadership Program is all about.

Estes Recycles Day Coming Up Soon
Estes Recycles Day will happen on Saturday, August 8th this year, including the Shred-A-Thon, an important fundraiser for our scholarship program. For the Shred, we are good with Volunteers. Once the flow slows down, people may leave as needed. Tara would like to encourage a few people to return at noon to help clean up, too. To volunteer, see Tara.
CRUTCHES4AFRICA RECYCLING AUGUST 8TH
Our only collection for Crutches4Africa will be held during the Estes Recycles Day on August 8th from 9 AM until noon at the Events Complex Main Parking. Look for a Highlander with the Crutches4Africa logo sign at the back end of the Shredding Section. We welcome used assistive devices you no longer need: crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, back braces, etc.
After August 8th, you will have to contact this organization for any assistive equipment you want to recycle. To contact Crutches4Africa, phone: 303-877-2803 or email: c4a@crutches4africa.org; To view their website go to www.crutches4africa.org.
The Rotary Club of Estes Park and Sunrise Rotary are sponsoring this project. Crutches4Africa is a 501(c)(3) organization and is the international project of Mountain Foothills Rotary Club in District 5450. David Talbot is a Rotarian and a polio survivor. He and his wife Candace, founded this organization after witnessing people in Africa struggling to move due to the effects of polio.
Crutches4Africa is now a worldwide organization and every person participating in it is a volunteer. No one is paid. They do this out of the goodness of their heart to provide mobility devices to people stricken with polio. They are living Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.
“Mobility, Health, Dignity, Access: We toil together to enable those we may never see. Hobbled in life by some illness, accident or act of violence. Many are hopeless. The generous donations given to Crutches 4 Africa are the tools we use to help raise the hindered, to lift them from the dust, and help them on their way.”
Please help us with this very worthy cause.
Thank you, Annie Slack

Our club needs you to volunteer to help the Zoom Squad set up the equipment each week. Please sign up (see clipboard) for the dates you can help the Zoom Squad! It takes all three of us to make this happen and I believe three more volunteers will really help!

John Denver Tribute Concert
With Link to Sponsorship Form Update
The John Denver Tribute Concert website has gone “live”. The concert will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 at the Ruesch Auditorium at the YMCA of the Rockies. Tickets can now be purchased at the Visitor’s Center and MacDonald’s Book Shop.
The website address is: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/john-denver-tribute-concert-tickets-1988557930300?aff=oddtdtcreator. There will be many opportunities to serve, but the first will be for all of the membership to become a sponsor. Sponsors will receive assigned seating with 4 tickets at the $500 or higher level, 2 tickets at the $250 level and 2 general admission tickets at the $100 level. Please give this important fundraising event your consideration and watch for an email with the accompanying material to be emailed to you soon.
Update from Tara: We want to thank those who have already become sponsors for the concert and encourage those that have not to do so😊. Also, I will be passing around a list of locations for a poster, and will want people to sign up for a (one) location to place a poster. For example, Chuck took one to put up at the Presbyterian Church, Carl took one to put up near his office, etc. Annie took one for Ace Hardware. Pick a place you frequent, and put a poster there.
