New Member Proposal: Heidi Cooper
Club member Harriette Woodard is sponsoring a new member, Heidi Cooper. The club board reviewed Heidi's application and approved her for membership as a new Rotarian at the Oct. 2 meeting and now submits her information for member review. Her bio appears below. If you have questions or comments, please contact Membership Chair Bill Solms.
From Heidi:
I am a Boston native who was born in the Back Bay, but spent my adult life in Boston's North End, which is the Italian district. If you like cannolis.... Mike's Pastry is world famous!
Prior to moving to Estes I worked for an Australian based Operational Management Firm, Enlighten Opex. Initially I joined them as a Junior Consultant and eventually became their Lead Executive Trainer, which put my background as an education major to good use. Directly out of college (Lesley University, Cambridge, MA) I enjoyed teaching both pre-k and kindergarten at a private school in Cambridge.
I joined Jason Slaughter, my fiancée, in Estes earlier this year. Jason has lived here four years. Gerald Mayo and his team hired me as a Realtor. Jason works for Estes Park Light and Power, as a Lineman and really enjoys the work. We like living in Estes and love all that the natural surroundings have to offer. Our special anniversary day is June 30th. From hiking and mountain biking, to trail running, paddle boarding and of course skiing in the winter, we tend to stay pretty busy!
Two of our favorite summer time activities are: visiting family, on Cape Cod while making sure to eat plenty of fresh seafood, as well as, traveling to California to visit my brother and his family and being sure to get out and surf some of the amazing Malibu beaches. Emma and Clara are my identical twin daughters who love horses and both chose CSU for college. They are part of the Equine Science and Business programs there and keep busy competing in as many Rodeo's, Mounted-Shooting events, and Polo-Cross games they can make it to each year.
I am looking forward to my first winter as an actual resident here in Estes and am hoping for a snowy winter!
Shred-a-thon date, request for sponsors
Club members have the opportunity to sponsor the October 13 Shred-a-thon, with their donations benefitting the scholarship fund.
"Please consider being a sponsor and help us to continue providing this service to our community and scholarships for our students," Tara Moenning asks.
The Oct. 13 Shred-a-thon will have some new features. Tara outlines them as follows:
1. We will be using a new vendor and will have two 6,000 lb. capacity trucks to increase our total available capacity by 20 percent.
2. We will be offering a new service to businesses/individuals that have 10+ boxes. For these businesses or individuals, who wish to be a sponsor for the trucks, we will be offering a scheduled appointment time and we will be expediting their loads. With sponsors for the trucks, we will be able to continue to make all donations available for scholarships.
3. There will be a minimum donation of $10 per box or bag. Remember, all donations go to our Rotary Scholarship Fund.
What to bring:
YES- paper documents with paper clips, alligator clips, pendaflex and filing folders, remove plastic binders—NO PLASTIC.

Each year the Rotary Club of Estes Park awards three academic scholarships of $8,000 each--$2,000/year for four years of undergraduate study. These are in addition to our endowed scholarships which are supported by funds donated in memory of former Rotarians. The Club works all year to raise money through various events to support our community’s students.
To find out more about this program and how you may help, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Harriette Woodard at 970-586-1040 or Tara Moenning at 970-577-0186.
Tara reminds us that most shredding places charge 0.89-0.99 cents/pound. A typical filled 16” x 13” x 10 ½ box weighs 28.5 lbs. If you took this box to Staples or UPS, you would be charged $25-$28 to have it shredded.
