Shred-a-thon date, request for sponsors

Club members have the opportunity to sponsor the October 13 Shred-a-thon, with their donations benefitting the scholarship fund.

"Please consider being a sponsor and help us to continue providing this service to our community and scholarships for our students," Tara Moenning asks.

The Oct. 13 Shred-a-thon will have some new features. Tara outlines them as follows:

1. We will be using a new vendor and will have two 6,000 lb. capacity trucks to increase our total available capacity by 20 percent.

2. We will be offering a new service to businesses/individuals that have 10+ boxes. For these businesses or individuals, who wish to be a sponsor for the trucks, we will be offering a scheduled appointment time and we will be expediting their loads. With sponsors for the trucks, we will be able to continue to make all donations available for scholarships.

3. There will be a minimum donation of $10 per box or bag. Remember, all donations go to our Rotary Scholarship Fund.

What to bring:
YES paper documents with paper clips, alligator clips, pendaflex and filing folders, remove plastic binders—NO PLASTIC.
NO  – x-rays, credit cards, DVDs, videos, tapes, hard drives, vellums, films, previously shredded material.

When and Where: Saturday, October 13, 9 a.m. to noon at the Community Church of the Rockies parking lot - partnering with the League of Women Voters and the Community Recycling Committee.
Each year the Rotary Club of Estes Park awards three academic scholarships of $8,000 each--$2,000/year for four years of undergraduate study. These are in addition to our endowed scholarships which are supported by funds donated in memory of former Rotarians. The Club works all year to raise money through various events to support our community’s students.

To find out more about this program and how you may help, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Harriette Woodard at 970-586-1040 or Tara Moenning at 970-577-0186.

Tara reminds us that most shredding places charge 0.89-0.99 cents/pound. A typical filled 16” x 13” x 10 ½  box weighs 28.5 lbs. If you took this box to Staples or UPS, you would be charged $25-$28 to have it shredded.

Rotary Quote of the Week

"Imagine if we could take a snapshot capturing all of the work Rotary does on a given day. No one - except Rotarians - would believe that a single organization was capable of accomplishing so much. In that snapshot you would see dedicated volunteers working to eradicate polio, setting up microloans, providing clean water, mentoring youth, and countless other actions.

We can do all this thanks both to our geographic reach and to the fact that our clubs are made up of people who are engaged in their communities. As part of the community that you serve, you know the needs, you have the connections, and you're able to take immediate action. That's why every Rotary club's membership should reflect the diversity of its community."
