This week's speakers: Tim Kreutzer, Amy Croft
Topic: Open Air Adventure Park

Tim Kreutzer and Amy Croft will discuss Open Air Adventure Park, the first of its kind in Estes Park, at the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Estes Park on Thursday, July 9. The aerial adventure park is a place to climb on, maneuver over, and swing through, high above the ground.

They will be describing the course—how the equipment works and what a participant does on the course. Amy and her husband Jim own the course with their daughter Catherine and son-in-law Tim. Tim will give some of his background qualifications as the designer, builder and manager of the course.

Amy will present a program asking for sponsorship by club members to partner with the Estes Park Boys and Girls Club to get the kids on the course.

June 27 golf tourney a win for golfers and students

A great turnout, a gorgeous day and some fabulous prizes created a successful Rotary Scholarship Benefit Golf Tournament on June 27, according to the event chairman. Golfers and sponsors included several visiting Rotarians, including Sojourner Frank Haines, pictured above.

“The 2015 tournament had the best turn out we have experienced in several years. We had 70 golfers, and everyone left happy,” said Bruce Carmichael, golf tournament chairman.

“We are still collecting sponsor pledges and paying our bills, so I can't give official fundraising results, but I believe we have exceeded our goal of 12,000,” he added.

A complete list of sponsors and prize donors will be available within a week, he added.

They included: visiting Rotarians Pat and John Vorreiter of Sunnyvale, California, Richard Kimple,  formerly of Ellenwood, Kansas, Ricky Klein of Vermont, Richard Willham of Iowa and Pat Moore of Texas. Guests of Rotarians included Mary and Dale Wheeler, Sue Fereday’s parents.

Rotary Moment
President Scott said he would like to feature a club member each week in a Rotary Moment, which would include: when the person joined Rotary, why he/she has remained a Rotarian and what initially attracted him/her to Rotary. Scott kicked off the initiative by telling the club about his Rotary experience.

Announcements
  • President Scott announced the 2015-16 theme, Be a Gift to the World. Pins with the logo are available for members. Scott thanked 2014-15 President Brad Rosenbaum for supporting last year’s Rotary theme, Light Up Rotary.
  • Scott thanked Dana Fritz and Jack Overly for organizing a memorable President’s Night. He presented a Board Secretary pin to Rita DuChateau and will recognize four others who were unable to attend the dinner.
Raffle
The most recent raffle resulted in a 4-way tie. Winner, drawn by Ricky Klein, was Wayne Andersen.

Happy Money
  • Wayne Newsom was happy that his daughter Karen Thompson is joining the club.
  • Bruce Carmichael was ecstatic about the big turnout for last Saturday’s golf tournament and hopeful that the final tally will reveal $13,000 raised for scholarships. He recognized his committee members for their work.
  • Larry Corbett, who was attending his last meeting, was happy to have been a member and thankful that J.R. Robertson invited him to join.
Levity and Brevity
Scott shared an inspirational story about the Fourth of July.

Program
Scott introduced the program, presented by Executive Director of the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District Skyler Rorabaugh and Recreation Superintendent Tom Carosello.

Adjournment
President Scott adjourned the meeting at 1:10 p.m. with an inspirational quote and the Four-Way Test.

Rotary Quote of the Week

"We in Rotary aspire to great deeds. We admire those who gave great gifts to humanity: Abrahan Lincoln, who gave the gift of human dignity to the downtrodden; Mother Teresa, who gave the gift of compassion to the forgotten; Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the gift of peaceful change to the oppressed. Their very lives became gifts to the world... We have only one chance at our lives. And we will have only one chance at this new Rotary year. This is our time. Let us grasp it. Let us Be a Gift to the World."
