Rotary Meeting Highlights – June 15, 2017

President Thor opened his last meeting promptly at 12 noon. A thoughtful invocation was provided by Guy VanderWerf. Song and pledge was led by Dave Evans and guest introductions by Don Widrig. Visiting for the summer is Richard Kimple, from Ellinwood, Kansas. Other visitors include Pat Newsom, wife of Wayne Newsom, and Brook Richardson, Nursing Home Administrator at Prospect Park Living Center.

Scott Thompson provided the joke of the day and provided an update of his recent visit to Atlanta for the International Rotary Conference. Scott indicated that the trip provided him an extra boost in Rotary Spirit. He also gave an update on Polio Plus. When Rotary entered into polio eradication, there were 3,500 cases per year reported. In 2016 there were 74 cases, and this year 5 cases. Bill Gates is still very much involved with Polio Plus and has pledged his continued involvement.

Welcome back from the RI Convention,Scott!
