The Rocky Mountain Conservancy, the official nonprofit partner of Rocky Mountain National Park, is one of the oldest and most effective friends groups in the National Park Service. Walt Borneman, president of the Conservancy’s Board of Directors, will share how the Conservancy supports conservation and education in the park with the support of members and donors.
Our local Conservancy supports Search & Rescue, wildlife conservation, environmental research and education, wildfire prevention and post-fire restoration, trail maintenance and construction, Rocky’s Junior Ranger program, and more. In addition, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy completed construction of the Rocky Terraces workforce housing on Highway 66 to support park staff, interns, and researchers. Audience members are encouraged to bring their questions.
Walt Borneman has served on the Conservancy’s board since 2019, and stepped up to board president in February. He is well known as the co-author of A Climbing Guide to Colorado’s Fourteeners, first published in 1978, and has advocated for Colorado’s natural resources as the first chairman of the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative and as president of the Colorado Mountain Club Foundation. Borneman earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in history from Western State College of Colorado and received his law degree from the University of Denver. He is also the author of many books and articles about mountains, railroads, and the American West, as well as American military and political history.
Our program on November 7th will be held in person, but a Zoom link will be provided.
Next Thursday is our day to vote on accepting an updated Club Constitution and rescinding our old one. Jim Austin will be leading this part of our meeting. We need 42 active members to vote on these motions. We cannot take proxies per our Bylaws and our Constitution.
What I can do, is take your name and vote by my cell or text. My cell is 970-231-6697. If you already know how you want to vote, please call or text me after 10 AM on Thursday morning, November 7th.
If you are at the meeting, we will be taking a vote by hand count. If you are on Zoom, we will be writing down your name and asking for your vote.
We will also have the second reading of our Nomination Slate. We still have the International Service Director position open. This position develops and implements international service projects both by our club and in cooperation with the programs of Rotary International. If you are interested, please let me, Carl, or Ron know.
We have a picture planned, as I am hoping to have a large representation of our club present.
If we have time, Scott Thompson will report on Duck Race developments.
And finally, we have Walt Borneman as our Speaker from the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. I know Mr. Borneman as a New York Times Best Selling Author. He has written wonderful, well researched historical books such as American Spring and Brothers Down. I am sure his presentation will be well worth your time even if it not about his books .

Noon Rotary Provides Funds for EPHS Students' Middle School Retaining Wall Project
Thanks to a collaboration between Noon Rotary and our club's Foundation, on Monday, October 28, 2024, Foundation President Barry Hannigan, Club President Annie Slack, and Community Service Director Beth Weisberg, presented two checks, totalling $2,536, to Estes Park High School's CTE Program. These funds will cover the cost of materials for a retaining wall which three EPHS CTE students will build at the Middle School. The three EP High School students, who are in the Principles of Construction CTE class, have helped to design, and will construct, the wall, providing them with real-world construction experience. The Middle School will benefit as well, as the new wall will prevent continued erosion of a hill at EP Middle School which has left the sidewalk covered in mud every time it has rained during the past two years.
Two of these students run a landscaping business outside of school, and the third works for a concrete company, so this grant gives them an opportunity to build upon their practical technical as well as critical construction skills. EPHS Principal Sonja Greenway, and students from the High School and the Middle School, extend their deep appreciation to Noon Rotary and our Foundation.

2024 Matching Charitable Donation Program - Ends Nov. 7
The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation is conducting a matching charitable donation program this fall to supplement donations to local non-profits.
The maximum matching donation amount is $300 per member and the minimum donation amount is $50. Rotary Club of Estes Park members will be able to apply for matching donations from the Foundation between October 10 and November 7, 2024.
The Foundation will be providing matching donations to any qualified 501(c)(3) organizations serving Estes Valley residents and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State.
The application form which provides detailed instructions is available at the weekly club meetings. You will also be receiving an email with the application form attached.
NOTE: Since this is the last week, if you plan to mail in your donation please email Jack Boatman so we know it is coming in the mail.
