Thursday's program to feature exchange student, Scouting updates

William Marshall, representing Boy Scouting in Estes Park, will speak at the Rotary Club of Estes Park on Thursday, May 5, at their regular noon meeting. He will discuss the Scout Recruiting Challenge

Unveiled at the 4th Annual Friends of Scouting breakfast, the Scout Recruiting Challenge is designed to enlist our community in creating the future of Estes Youth by encouraging them to experience the fun and values of Scouting. In particular, Scouting is actively reaching out to our Hispanic community, which comprises over 25 percent of Estes Park Schools’ students.

Bill would like to encourage all of us to refer young people to a Scout meeting to see if they would like to become Scouts.

A volunteer with the Rocky Mountain District of the Boy Scouts, Marshall is a former Navy Lieutenant, Naval Flight Officer and Mission Commander.  In addition, he is the retired Treasurer of Nalco Chemical Company, a Fortune 250 industrial company. Bill is a Distinguished Eagle Scout, and is writing his third book:  “Rediscovering Free Enterprise:  Freedom’s Imperative.”

Also scheduled for Thursday's program is an update from Mica Martino, our Rotary Foreign Exchange student.

Meeting Notes – April 28, 2016

District 5440 to honor deceased Rotarians

If you are planning to attend the 2016 District 5440 Conference May 19-21 in Jackson, Wyoming, you can be a part of a ceremony that honors Rotarians who have died during the previous year. Our club lost Ron Kuhns on July 16, 2015. The rose ceremony is a solemn and moving remembrance, according to those who have witnessed it. Please contact Rita DuChateau, board secretary, if you will be at the District Conference and can serve as our representative in the rose ceremony.
Rotary Quote of the Week

"We have had women in Rotary for only the last quarter of our history; and it is no coincidence that those years have been by far our most productive In 1995, only 1 in 20 Rotarians were women; today, that number has risen to 1 in 5. It is progress, but it is not enough." .
-K.R. Ravindran, 2015-16 President, Rotary International
