Ruby Bode
Superintendent of Estes Park School District
Ruby Bode's first successful teaching experience was when she tutored teenage girls to pass the GED at a homeless shelter in Des Moines, Iowa when she was 20 years old. That is when her aspirations to be a teacher began and she pursued secondary education. She has had a passion for learning and has continued to grow as a leader in education ever since. Ruby taught science in the classroom for 10 years before she was called upon to lead the middle school as principal. Ruby has been an administrator for the last 10 years. Ruby joined Estes Park School District in 2005 and has served in the capacity of teacher, coach, principal, director, and assistant superintendent. Most recently, Ruby was named the Superintendent of Estes Park Schools on July 1, 2022.
Ruby is currently a doctoral student at Colorado State University. She holds a Masters of Educational Leadership, University of Northern Colorado. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Secondary Education, Iowa State University.
Her vision and passion for the success of every student makes her leadership a bright, new and exciting future for our students, teachers, district staff, parents and community. Rubywould like to share the school district's strategic plan, direction and goals for the next 5 years.

Chuck and I joined with many community members on Saturday to watch the partial solar eclipse from the Estes Observatory. Mike Connelly and his team put on a great opportunity to view through the big telescope’s 16” lens. In addition, they provided safe viewing glasses to scores of visitors who could then safely watch the event on their own. It was wonderful!
Here are a few of the pictures from that day. Jim Austin was so fast-moving I only captured his back. You’ll see him here leaving with his box. It had a small hole in it that allowed the sun’s rays to safely show the eclipse on the inside. That way he was able to show children the eclipse’s progression while not endangering their eyes.
Here is a good picture of Mike smiling near the end of the event. And Tom Maher enjoyed viewing while greeting many friends and acquaintances who gathered outside the building to watch. I missed getting a shot of Jim Whiteneck who had to leave before it was over.
The picture of the sun with the ring all the way around was taken from the big screen inside the observatory. It was a feed from NASA from Albuquerque, which was at the center of the viewing area in the U.S. Estes Park was able to view about 83% of the eclipse area.

The Interact Club meeting was a total success with 35 students in attendance. The pizza was the perfect number (14)! Our exchange student, Lucia, came and led one of the groups. Plans were set for next week's meeting...11:36 AM FRIDAY in Room 215 at the Middle School. I think Officers are going to be elected but I may be wrong as I wasn't there. This was just wonderful. Our Rotary Club's annual pumpkin distribution at Estes Park Elementary School on Thursday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m. We will have 510 pumpkins to unload from Sue Fereday's trailer and set up like a "pumpkin patch" in the front parking lot of the school. After we're done, anyone who wants to stay can wtheatch the schoolchildren come out class by class and watch their excitement as they each select a free pumpkin to take home. It's a lot of fun.

2023 Matching Charitable Donation Program
The Rotary Club of Estes Park Foundation is conducting a matching charitable donation program this fall to supplement donations to local non-profits. The maximum matching donation amount is $300 per member and the minimum donation amount is $50. Rotary Club of Estes Park members will be able to apply for matching donations from the Foundation between October 19 and November 16, 2023. The Foundation will be providing matching donations to any qualified 501(c)(3) organizations serving Estes Valley residents and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State. The application form which provides detailed instructions is available at the weekly club meetings. You will also be receiving an email with the application form attached.

Bright Christmas operates year-round

as well as holiday presents to families in need at Christmas time.
If you contribute to Bright Christmas directly (or through our Club matching grants)
those contributions cannot be used for our adopted family
they go directly to Bright Christmas for their work overall.

The collection starts today and will continue through November 30, 2023.
Our adopted family will be assigned in late October or early November.
