At Philanthropy Day, a few hours after our weekly meeting, Pete Sumey reminded visitors that the Duck Race will be May 6. Thanks to the many club members who took turns at the information table and anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner of the Enduring Service Award for which our club was nominated.
Lucky and Kathy Grosbeck enjoyed meeting and greeting Philanthropy Day attendees.
Thor and Lucky represented our club, which was nominated in the Enduring Service Category. Alas, this was not our year to win, but we earned a certificate, a handshake, and the chance to compete with community luminaries.

Meeting Notes, Nov. 10, 2016
President Thor Homme called the meeting to order. We welcomed our Assistant District Governor, Ron Randle, who was visiting our club today. Tara Moenning gave the invocation. Dave Evans led us in singing “America The Beautiful”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Phil Moenning led guest introductions. One our sojourners, Pat Vorreiter, attended today. We welcomed Jerry Kennell, husband of our presenter today, and our Rick Taylor’s wife, Jan Taylor.
Scott Thompson read an essay on “someone else” which urged us to step up and volunteer rather than waiting for “someone else”. This pertains to the fact that we have three offices to fill for 2018, including President Elect, along with Sargent at Arms, Youth Vocation Services. The nominating committee has already talked to each one of us and will be calling again.
Thor commented that our membership is now less than the Sunrise Club for the first time.
Announcements
Dave Evans said he had completed listing duck adoptions for each member for Ernie Altick credit. He and Pete Sumey produced letters for each of us listing our donation history. We should check these and tell Dave of any errors.
Bob Brunson was in the hospital for a while and got out last Friday. Thor had been visiting him and was concerned. However, Bob is home now and expects to return to Rotary.
Robert Ludlum is not with us today as he had carpal tunnel surgery.
The Foundation Board meets November 17 at the Comfort Inn.
Philanthropy Day celebration is tonight at the YMCA. We have a table exhibit there. Our club is nominated for organization Philanthropist of the Year.
Wayne Andersen announced it is time for Salvation Army bell ringing. Our timeframe is Dec. 1-11. He has a couple Bell Captains and needs more. If we have 6-8 it is a more manageable task. Contact Wayne to volunteer.
Duck Race Committee meets November 17 at 5:00 at Nicky’s. We also need the key to the PO Box 1226. Does anyone have it?
Thor said, beginning January, the 4th meeting of the month will be for club committees to meet. The goal is to make it easier for committees to meet and thus to become more active.
Friday Night Café volunteers are being coordinated by Roger Thorp and Chuck Bonza. They will be contacting us to volunteer.
We have also lost our box of Rotary rock paper weight gifts for our guest speakers. Has anyone seen it?

Program
Rick Taylor introduced our program. Leonor Kennell is English Language Outreach Coordinator for the Estes Valley Library. Dave Evans and Pete Sumey successfully applied for a grant from our District Rotary for $1,000 to match our club’s $500 for a total of $1,500 for materials for a new initiative “Welcome to the USA”. Leonor told us about the English tutorial program and she needs tutors like us to teach immigrant adults English, one on one. The program now has 30. Contact her at lkennell@estesvalleylibrary.org, 586-8116 x 836.
