Kristi Ehle, Program Coordinator for Partners Mentoring Youth, will speak on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Rotary Club of Estes Park, at their regular noon meeting. Partners is currently recruiting additional mentors and advisory council members.
Having served the Estes Park community since 1996, Mentoring Youth creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social and academic lives. By matching youth with adult mentors, the youth have additional support, a positive role model, and a friend. Data shows that upon completion of one year in the Partners program, youth show increased self-esteem, lower rates of delinquency, decreased intent to use drugs and increased attachment to adults who are not parents or relatives.
Kristi Ehle is a Colorado native. She taught social studies at Estes Park High School before becoming the program coordinator for Partners Mentoring Youth. Kristi lives in Lyons with her husband and dog and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in school counseling.

With little fanfare but much joy, more than 700 bright orange pumpkins will be given away Friday, October 23 at several locations in Estes Park.
Students and staff at Estes Park Elementary School and two local preschools, as well as residents of Prospect Living Center, Good Samaritan and patrons of the Senior Center will receive an armful of fall cheer. The program, which is in its 79th year has distributed thousands of donated pumpkins, according to Jay Harroff, this year’s organizer.
The pumpkins, 750 this year, have been donated by the Safeway Foundation and are safely stashed at a secret location awaiting distribution day. Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Estes Park and friends provide the person power for the annual event.
The giveaway begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at the Estes Park Elementary School. From there, the pumpkin convoy travels to preschools and senior centers. Volunteers and visitors are welcome to help spread the Halloween happiness. If there are any questions/concerns/suggestions to improve this event, please contact Jay Harroff at: Harroff@pruteam.com or by phone at 970-227-3856.
"On October 24, we mark World Polio Day. I hope that on that day, all of you will take part in some way in our work to eradicate polio. ... This war of ours - which started as a war against polio but is also a war against hatred, against ignorance, against fear - this war will be won. It will be won soon. And when it is won, all of Rotary will have a story to tell - to the children, and the grandchildren, who will never see a leg brace or an iron lung, or know a world with polio in it."
K.R. Ravindran, 2015-16 Rotary International President in the October 2015 Rotarian Magazine
