Vern Carda moved to Estes Park from Billiings, Mont., where he spent time managing regional strategy for a collection of 13 hospitals spread across the eastern portion of Montana and into Wyoming. He is originally from Armour, S.D., and earned his undergraduate degree in Hospital Administration from the University of South Dakota. He earned a masters degree in Computer Systems Management from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
David Batey has worked at ExxonMobil, New Jersey Medical School, Duke Univ. Medical School, Johnson & Johnson, Rutgers Univ., and Ball State Univ.
He has volunteered at Estes Park Medical Center, Estes Park Development Corp., Estes Park Trail-Gazette, YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Non-Profit Resource Center, Estes Valley Broadbend Engineering Project, Estes Park Ambassadors, Estes Park Newcomers, Estes Valley Community Center, and Estes Park One Percent Sales Tax Campaign.
His education includes Kalamazoo College, BA, Psychology; Ball State University, MA, General and Experimental Psychology; Rutgers University, PhD, Clinical Psychology; Medical Psychology Internship, Duke University Medical School; Postdoctoral Fellow, New Jersey Medical School; Rutgers University/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, MPH; University of Texas School of Public Health, DrPH.

November 11 is Veterans Day, the day to mark the end of WWI in 1918. It is our day to honor our veterans and spend a moment to reflect on all the souls that gave their lives for our freedoms. Take another moment to think how blessed we are to have those freedoms.
I want to thank all of you for making the effort to be at our Thursday meeting in person, by Zoom, or by phone. I was touched and pleased. The votes were unanimous for accepting a new Club Constitution in line with the Rotary International 2022 Constitution and for rescinding our old Club Constitution from 1989 with many antiquated requirements.
Know that the Membership Satisfaction Survey will be presented to the Club as a work session on January 16, 2025. Grant Delbecq analyzed the results and divided them into 5 groups. Our plan is to have 5 tables with a facilitator at each table to address the areas and provide strategic plans for accomplishing our desired goals.
Our 100% Paul Harris committee is getting started. Members of the committee are Ron Gordon, Kathy Groesbeck and myself. We plan to have everyone contacted by the end of February and present the Awards at a meeting on April 24, 2025.
This week we also had our Board Meeting. The suggestion was made to start listing the amounts of money we vote to give away so that our members have a better idea of what the Board does.
Tuesday, we voted to give
$3,100 to Shelter Box USA to be used for providing emergency relief to communities in crisis. ShelterBox USA is an affiliate of ShelterBox, which is Rotary’s official disaster relief partner. To support their response efforts, ShelterBox USA has committed a $100,000 match grant to the Rotary Zone 33 and 34 Disaster Recovery Fund. This will enable Rotary to deliver essential aid—water, shelter, and hygiene kits—directly to the hardest-hit areas.for Hurricane Helene and Milton. Our $3,100 donation will be matched and doubled to $6,200!
$1465 was donated by our members for Bright Christmas so we can gift a family with presents. Beth, Community Service Director, will keep us informed about this project.
$750 was approved for Blue Santa, an event sponsored by the Estes Park Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit, to purchase and deliver non-perishable food and hygiene products to disabled, shut-in, and elderly community members.
As a Club, we are certainly demonstrating “Will it be beneficial to all concerned”. Thank you again and congratulations to all of you for all you do!

Business Meeting:
Jim Austin presented a new constitution to the club. The club membership was 61 as of the November Board of Directors meeting. The quorum required for club meetings is 1/3 of the membership leading to needing 21 or more present for the club meeting to proceed and for the votes. The 2022 Club Constitution requires 2/3's for the voting members (attending in person, on line and by phone) to vote in the affirmative to pass the motion. The 1989 Club Constitution requires only a simple majority of the present and voting members to vote in the affirmative to pass the motion.
The present constitution dates from 1989 and it has several problems that need to be addressed, so a new one from 2022 has been drafted. A quorum was declared with 36 members present. Ron Gordon made a motion to accept the new constitution. Suzy Blackhurst seconded, and it passed with 43 yea votes (34 present, 4 on the phone, and 5 on zoom). Jim then said we needed to get rid of the old constitution, so Barry Hannigan made that motion. Jim Whiteneck seconded and it passed with 43 yea votes (34 present, 4 on the phone, and 5 on zoom).

Annie Slack read the slate of nominees for the 2024-2025 officers. She will present the slate one more time next week and then it will be voted on at the following week’s meeting. Ron Gordon nominated Dale and Chuck Bonza to co-chair the International committee.
Scott Thompson said the Duck Race committee will meet immediately after the noon session. Budget and organization will be discussed.
Karen Thompson announced that the Friendship Card is nearly ready. To choose a cover photo, please vote on one of the pictures that are displayed near the entrance.
Beth Weisberg announced that Carl Robicheaux’s gumbo fundraiser will be on Nov. 14 at the Legion.

Jack Ford introduced Walt Borneman, president of the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. Walt discussed how the Conservancy supports conservation and education in the park with the support of members and donors.

We had one position open on our slate of nominees for our 2025-2026 Rotary year. Thanks to Chuck and Dale Bonza, the International Service Committee Directorship will now have Co-Chairs. We will be electing the Nomination Slate including the International Service Committee Directors this coming Thursday. The vote for the Slate can be done with the members present provided we have a quorum which is one-third of our active members or 21 attendees.

Hello, all.
Our Coffee Talk group met for the second time on Saturday, November 2 at the Inkwell coffee shop. We are on an exponential growth trend! We had two folks for our inaugural get together on October 7 at Coffee on the Rocks. We had four members plus a couple of drop-ins including one of the Estes Valley's more colorful characters for our November 2 get together. There was stimulating and informative conversation among all of those present. Thanks to Annie, Anna, and Bill for coming down. An especially big thank you to Kevin Reed, owner of the Inkwell. I had a couple of great talks with him in setting up the coffee and was pleasantly surprised to see he had reserved a table upstairs for us. Feel free to show Kevin and the Inkwell a little love when you need that caffeine fix or a special card for someone!
