The Salvation Army is dedicated to impacting the lives of our youth. The Salvation Army Camps are attended by more than 100,000 people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic levels each year. With more than 50 Salvation Army Camps throughout the United States, and each one is unique to its geographical area. They all meet high standards in housing, nutrition, and safety according to the American Camping Association.
Meeting Notes for May 25, 2024
 
President Karen Thompson rang the bell at 12:00 PM.
Karol Rinehart gave the Invocation.
Pres. Karen led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Madison Casey played the song “God Bless America.”
 
Guests of Rotarians:
  • Karen Thompson introduced her mother, Pat Newsom.  
  • Rotarians Tom Maher and Dave Scott were also in attendance.
Announcements:
  • Jim Jonell is having a reception for our graduating Rotary Exchange Student, Lucy
    • It will be after the graduation ceremony
    • at their home from 2-4 p.m. (See Spoke for their address)
  • Karol announced President’s night on June 13.  
    • Cash bar at 5:30 and then dinner and the program.  
    • Cost is $35 per person.
    • See Karol to sign up,  June 3 is the deadline.
  • Annie Slack reminded the members of the Social with Sunrise Rotary on May 30th at 5:00 pm
    • High Peaks Camp and Conference Center
    • Arrive between 4:30 and 5:00.
    • Cost is $11 per person.
    • Last day to sign up
    • Have two tickets to give away due to Bateys unable to attend
  • Wayne Newsom is having a reception for his 95th birthday, his wife, Pat’s 90th birthday, and their 70th anniversary.  
    • It will be on June 1 from 2-5
    • at the American Legion.

Scott Robbins, who is taking over the membership duties for Annie, announce our new member, Roberta Raworth. 
Berta is a transfer from Sunrise Rotary. 
Berta gave a nice introduction as part of the membership ceremony.

Paul Harris Award:
  • Annie presented a ruby pin signifying $7000 to Jack Ford for his Paul Harris award.  
  • Jack announced that
    • the award was in memory his mother, a polio survivor.
    • He encouraged people to become Paul Harris donors to support Rotary International projects around the world.

Joke of the Day:
  • Scott Thompson gave away a book by Patrick Galvin, The Trusted Way.  
  • The book was a reward for answering a quiz posed in the form of a joke.
Happy Money:    
  • Karen Thompson was glad to be in attendance.
  • Pete Sinnott was happy to see an article in the New York Times about Polio Plus that mentioned Rotary and the Gates Foundation.
  • Suzy Blackhurst is happy about her project with her partner, Patty Brown, to publish of news platform for Estes called Estes Valley Voice.  
  • Berta Raworth is happy to be a new member to Noon Rotary.
  • Dave Boon is happy that there are now eight new garden beds for the Falcon Ridge project.
  • Bill Solms is happy for Wayne Newsom’s birthday.
  • Bill Smith is happy that he took more friendship cards to The Country Supermarket.
  • Annie is glad Berta has transferred to our club.
