Join us as we award the 2014 grant recipients at this weeks meeting. It has been a tremendous effort on behalf of our board to expedite the grants process this year, in order to get funds to our community sooner to help them move forward from the 2013 flood. It will be a wonderful program as we show Rotarians support for our Estes Park Organizations.
Mark you calendars, invite your friends and please consider being a sponsor. The curtain goes up on “It’s Showtime!” at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and 2 p.m. March 1. The committee, led by Pete Sumey, is busy planning the program, recruiting performers, tallying sponsors, and finalizing poster and ticket design.
According to Pete, this year’s production needs your help more than ever. To give the local merchants a post-flood financial break, the committee will not be selling ads for the program. Instead, all past advertisers and sponsors will be recognized in the 2014 program and thanked for their support. That’s where Rotarians come in, Pete says. The committee is hoping that Rotarians will step up as sponsors for “It’s Showtime!” Last year, the show had 14 sponsors, who gave between $1,000 and $50, for a total of $2,850. To make up the loss of ad sales, this year’s goal is $5,000. Your sponsorship also says “Thanks” to club members who will entertain, including Jack Overly, the Four Tenors and Bob Brunson.
Contact Phil Moenning at 970-577-0186 or Philip@aspenbrook.com for information on sponsorship. The check should be made out to The Estes Park Rotary Club Foundation c/o It's Showtime. You can give your check to Phil Moenning, Larry Williams or Pete Sumey at the regular meeting, or it mail it to PO Box 1365, Estes Park, CO 80517.
Tickets are available for “It’s Showtime!” at our club meeting, MacDonald’s Bookstore, the Estes Park Visitors Center, and MedX. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. One ticket will admit you in to either performance. The production will be held at Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies, 1700 Brodie Ave. All proceeds benefit Estes Park High School senior scholarships, to be awarded May 14.
Meeting Notes - January 23, 2104
President Peter Sinnott called the meeting to order at noon. Carol Grasso led the invocation. Rev. Earl Matson led club members in the song, “This Land Is Your Land,” and the Pledge of Allegiance. JackVaughan introduced guests: Sarah Holdt, Fred Mars, Cathy Whitacre and Paula Foster. Peter Sinnott noted that the “fantastic” turnout at the last few meetings is the result of the hard work of Marcia Logan and Guy Van der Werf, program chairpersons. Bob Brunson announced that his son, a veterinarian, would be presenting a program at the Estes Valley Library next week on animal anesthesiology. Pete Sumey pointed out fliers on each table for “It’s Showtime!” The production, on February 28 and March 1, needs Rotary sponsors because ads will not be sold for the program. Tickets will be available at the Feb. 6 meeting. Earl Matson asked for volunteers to help deliver posters for “It’s Showtime!” to local businesses. Madison Casey invited all to the Car Club Sock Hop on Jan. 25, and noted that each table had fliers with details of the event.
Members were asked to sign a card with get-well wishes for Jane Harroff and to buy chances in the Super Bowl raffle. Happy Money: John Ericson said as there is no meeting next week, this is the last chance to buy a box for the Super Bowl raffle and invited all to take an Estes Park Self Storage 2014 calendar. Brad Rosenbaum introduced the program on Colorado Life Magazine, and the presenters: Publisher Chris Amundson, Staff Writers Matt Masich and Sarah Holdt and Staff Photographer Joshua Hardin. With 8,000 subscribers and 20,000 copies sold on newsstands, the publication covers the state “peaks to plains, past to present.”
At the conclusion of the program the presenters signed a book for the Estes Valley Library, The Things I Can Do. Peter Sinnott ended the meeting at 12:51 p.m. with the recitation of The Four-Way Test and a reminder that there would be no meeting on Jan. 30.
