August 20, 2020 Meeting Notes
President Bill Solms called the meeting to order. Anne Slack gave the Invocation. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and the song, “God Bless America,” Bill acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries. Karol Rinehart introduced ZoomGuests of Rotarians: Pete Sumey’s wife, Lois; and Virgil Holtgrewe’s wife, Carol. Scott entertained us with a lawyer/butcher/dog joke.
Happy Money
Anne Slack is delighted that Michelle Mann will be joining our club.
Madison is happy that he and Marty are empty nesters for the first time in five months, following his grandson’s return to classes at CSU and the departure of family members.
Bill Solms tried desperately to find a club members who could answer his Rotarian Magazine trivia question, but alas, no one recalled that the Aspen Club was featured in the latest edition. Additionally, he decreed that going forward, “guessers” would be charged $1 per guess.
Announcements
Bill Solms reminded club members that our District Governor would visit the club next month, date to be announced, and that Bill would participate in a meeting of Estes Rotary club presidents on Friday.
Madison Casey announced that the Foundation Board would meet on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 1:15 via Zoom.
Jim Whiteneck announced that 5 club members have volunteered for the community service bridge rail painting project on Tuesday, Sept. 22 near Hole 9 on the 9-Hole Golf Course. Box lunch will be provided by the Membership Committee at the Rotary Pavilion. Jim needs more volunteers; contact him.
Program Rick Taylor introduced Michael Moon, who presented an informative program on the Paradise Gap in Estes Park and the work to address the childcare crisis. He presented a plan the Estes ECE is advocating to increase sales tax in Larimer County by 0.5 cent to build, equip, staff and support several early childhood centers in the county, including a facility in Estes Park. He responded to questions from members and then was virtually presented with a Piece of the Rock.
Adjournment The meeting adjourned with the recitation of the Four-Way Test at 1:03.
