JoAnn will talk about Estes Park School District 3rd and 7th grade students encountering local history at the Stanley Home museum, portrayals of historical characters from our community, some involving local Chautauqua students, and other current and possible future innovative local history programs.
JoAnn has served on the Historic Stanley Home Foundation Board as President for three years prior to becoming Director.

Update from President Anne Slack
I want to fill you in on what our Board Meeting covered last Tuesday. After the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s Report we covered Old Business. One of my goals for this year is to update our Bylaws as they were written in 2010 and not even signed, so they are really out of date. Jim Austin has volunteered to lead a committee to address the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures.
We approved honorary members: Dave Boon, Dana Fritz, Gary & Kris Hazelton, Sandy Lasson, Harry Livingston and Virgil Holtgrewe.
We voted to continue as members of the Chamber of Commerce with Scott Robbins volunteering to follow up with meetings, etc.
We approved $493 from Project Funds to fully fund the Learning Place and the Albania Summer Camp as the District was unable to give us the full amount we requested.
We plan to start three committees: Policies & Procedures, Public Image and 100% Paul Harris. We will have more information after the John Denver Tribute Concert.
Next, we had reports from the different committees.

President Anne Slack called the meeting to order. Invocation by Bill Solms. Annie led the Pledge of Allegiance. We sang “This Land is Your Land”, accompanied by Madison Casey.

We said goodbye for now to Andrea Escorcia who is off to law school at the U of Wyoming.
Annie said this is the last day to buy peaches from Sunrise Rotary.
Greeley Centennial Club invited us to their Quick Draw fundraiser for their scholarships on August 24.
Long-time former member Lee Machin died last week.
Isaiah Johnson announced that the Board of Realtors started a fund partnering with Bank of Estes Park for living expenses for those displaced by the recent fire. Crossroads will distribute this and quickly so victims can meet their expenses. Checks can be made to Crossroads, memo Fire Relief Fund and taken to Crossroads or Bank of Estes Park. The bank will match the first $5,000.
Tara Moenning said our shred-a- thon is this Saturday Aug 10.
Tara also reminded us that John Denver concert is August 31. See her to volunteer or to sponsor.
Scott Robbins said this 5th Thursday would normally be a social but that is just before the John Denver concert so he urged everyone to come to that.

Richard Kimple has been coming to our club since 1989 from Ellenwood, KS club. He has been a Rotarian for 52 years and followed his father and grandfather. He is also celebrating 55-year wedding anniversary this week.
Carl Robicheaux enjoyed Bill Solms invocation and sends best wishes to Andrea for law school.
Chris Davis of Thompson Group was happy to help Mark and Karen Lee sell mother’s condo in Loveland so she can move back to North Carolina.
Beth Weisberg is happy that Pete Sumey has been back with us; that Dale Bonza is back today and best wishes to Andrea.
Karen Thompson is happy for parents Wayne & Pat Newsom 70+ years anniversary coming up.
Annie is happy to see Chuck & Dale Bonza here today and wishes Andrea luck in law school.

Nominating Committee Members Changed
Thanks to the following Rotarians for volunteering to be on the Nominating Committee: Jack Ford, Sarah Walsh, Carl Robicheaux, Chris Davis and Paula Edwards. Their job is to develop a list of qualified nominees for Officers and Directors for 2025-2026 Rotary fiscal year. Officers positions include a President Elect Nominee, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant-at-Arms. Directorate positions that are open this year are: Community Service, International Service and Fund Development. If you are interested in any position, please contact one of the members listed above. Their decisions have to be completed by the middle of September to allow time to notify the club three times before our Annual Meeting on October 3rd per our Bylaws.
Shredathon/Estes Recycles Day Report
The total money added to our Scholarship Fund will be $1,743.60. Despite having perfect weather, the attendance was down for shredding. The total attendance was 429 cars versus over 500 last year. We will know more once we have the data on how many went through each station, but we didn’t have the number of cars in the queue that we had last year. Was this because we were more efficient? Or, were our numbers simply down? Answers to these questions will follow.
A huge “thank you” goes out to the following Rotarians:
Bill Smith and Scott Thompson who set up very early, then returned to haul it all back to where it belonged.
Shred truck helpers who greeted each car and emptied all the boxes and bags—David Batey, Jack Boatman, Madison Casey, Grant Delbeqc, Jim Jonell, Dave Scott, and Guy Van der Werf;
Scott Robbins and Phil Moenning for tearing down all those cardboard boxes—an entire dumpster’s worth, and Scott for getting in the dumpster and stomping them all down—(we missed you, Jim Austin);
Karol Rinehart for her usual gracious collection of funds from our customers, and keeping all the dogs happy with her “doggie treats” (a first here, one customer ate a dog biscuit!);
For executing a great traffic pattern and counting the numbers: JoAnn Batey, Karen Thompson, Beth Weisberg, and Madison Casey;
And Annie Slack for making sure it was recorded for posterity😊.
I hope I didn’t miss anyone because I am so grateful for each one. A “Thank you” just doesn’t seem like enough.

Fundraising for the Scholarship Fund - Update
Thanks to everyone who has signed up for the Shred-a-thon on Saturday, August 10th.
The sign-up sheet for the John Denver Tribute Concert volunteers is now circulating. Here we need people for various tasks that are spread out over the noon to 3:30 pm time frame, and then for the 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm time frame. Clean-up help from 8:30 pm until 9 pm would be appreciated as well. Update: We still need volunteers for the John Denver Tribute Concert, especially ushers.
Update: Sponsors, and donations in memory of someone, are always welcome. These help to defray the costs and allow more of the proceeds to go to the Scholarship Fund.

August 22 Update:
John Denver Tribute Concert, August 31st, 2024, at the YMCA Ruesch Auditorium, doors open at 4 pm, Random and True performing from 5 pm – 6 pm, and Brad Fitch and his Tropicowboy Band performing from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.
The concert has been designated as the “Social” for the 5th Thursday month of August. Rotarians may purchase tickets for $35 until Friday, August 30th—they will be $40 at the door. They may sit in unclaimed seats in sections A and G, or in any general admission sections. Another alternative would be to be a sponsor—for $100 you would get two general admission tickets and have your name listed as a sponsor. To socialize with other Club members we will gather on the deck during intermission.
We are still looking for volunteers to usher: 4 pm to 6:30 pm.
