August 11, 2022 Meeting Notes President Dennis Gellhaus called the meeting to order. Scott Robbins gave the Invocation Dennis led the Pledge of Allegiance. Madison Casey led song “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”. Dennis modeled our new Rotary work vests. Mark Lee asked all speakers to use the mic so our Zoom participants can hear. He also asked for help to - set up and tear down our new PA system each meeting (not technical) and
- someone to sit in for him as needed to run Zoom for our meetings (technical, training provided).
Guests of Rotarians: Scott Thompson introduced guests for the program today: - Rachel Oppermann and Rebecca Gelsinger from Visit Estes Park
- He thanked them for sponsoring the Duck Race and for their hard work that day.
We welcomed Sarah Pita from Nehemiah Gateway, guest of Michelle Mann. - She was glad to be back and thanked us for all the good we have done for the kids in Albania.
- She has been our contact for Ron Gordon and Jack Boatman for our work there.
- She is a member of the Rotary Club in Swarthmore, PA.

- Duck Race Committee meeting today is cancelled
- but the Tech Committee is meeting instead.
- It is surveying users to see what has worked and what hasn’t.
- Bill Smith said we will have a 5th Thursday social at the Historic Stanley Home, Sept 29, 5:00 for 2 hours.
- $20 each for apps, beer, wine, margaritas & tour.
- Shuttle bus from Visitors Center at 5:00.
- Need 20 people.
- Tom Maher introduced Ruby Bode who is with us again today as a guest this time versus a presenter, and is joining our club.
- Jim Austin reported Pete Sinnott had a hole-in-one yesterday!
- Jim Austin introduced a new club initiative to support Shelter Boxes.
- The product was started by a Rotarian and grew into its own charitable organization that now receives 40% of its support from Rotary.
- Jim has volunteered to be our club champion for this program that Rotary International has established.
- He will be collecting donations from us Rotarians at each meeting, and reporting to us monthly, so it is not funded by our club.
- Each box cost $1,000.
- Beth reported EVICS is upgrading the children’s portion of its Parents’ Room which serves 25 families daily.
- The room needs specialized Montessori type toys and cabinets.
- The kids hang out there when parents are being served.
- They estimate a need of $729.
- We already support another one of their programs so she is offering this to us for individual donations.
Meetings:- Rotary Foundation meets August 18 at 1:30 at Quality Inn.
- The Shred-a-Thon recycle day will be August 27.
- The John Denver Tribute concert by Brad Fitch will be September 3.

Ron Gordon is chairing fundraising for the Golf Tournament - September 16th - He has handouts for us for soliciting donors.

Happy Money: - Tom Maher is happy Ruby Bode is here today.
- He noted that our speaker Scott Webermeier has a long history in Estes Park service
- as a charter member of Sunrise Rotary,
- his father was school board president, on which Scott also served,
- he thanked him for his community service.
- Karen Thompson said it is her parents Wayne and Pat Newsom’s 70th wedding anniversary.
- Wayne gave her $100 to put in for his 70 years and
- to pay it forward for someone who is celebrating more than 30!
- She and Scott took them to Silverton, CO where her parents had spent their honeymoon.
- Jim Whiteneck donated $48 for his anniversary yesterday.
- Mel Rueppel is happy that he had a normal EKG test yesterday and his atrial flutter is fixed.
- Ron Gordon was happy for Jim’s Shelter Box effort and suggested he is now part of his Rotary International Committee.
Awards: Karen Thompson brought up our guest Speaker Scott Webermeier, wife Katie and long-time employee Estella Conejo. - Karen presented Scott with a Certificate of Appreciation for his Country Market’s support of the Friendship Card.
- They sell the most cards of our outlets by far-- totaling $18,000 of the total 30,000 we have earned in the four years of the program.
- Estella at the store pushes sales hard and reminds people to use the discount.
- Karen also gave them a bag of swag – Rotary license plate frame, Rotary necklace & earrings.

- Then Karen brought up Annie Slack who inducted Estella Conejo has an honorary member of Rotary
- for her many years of service selling the Friendship card now,
- and previously serving us during our many years of meeting at the Park Theater in the Other Side.

Program: Karen introduced our program-Scott Webermeier. He presented the new lodging “pillow tax” that will be on the local marketing district ballot at the next election. This is newly allowed by the state so that towns can choose to set up to fund their workforce housing and childcare needs, if their voters approve.
