Meeting Notes for June 5, 2025
 
President Annie Slack rang the bell at 12:00.
Anna Weddle gave the Invocation.
Annie led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Madison Casey played the song “Grand Old Flag.”
 
Announcements:
  • Annie Slack: we have a new hanger for flags.
    • Coffee Talk will be this coming Saturday at Inkwell and Brew at 8:30.
    •  On Tuesday, June 10, at 5:00 p.m. there will be a zoom meeting with Bob Fulton about the Duck Race.
  • Beth Weisberg:  the Community Service Committee will meet today right after the club meeting.
  • Mark Lee announced a $50,000.00 scholarship donation by a person named Bruce who wishes to remain anonymous.  It is for a student who intends to major in finance or economics.

  • Dave Scott said the Estes Park Jazz Fest will take place on Aug. 2-3.  This is their second year and they are raising funds for a scholarship.  Any donation you make will go only toward the scholarship.

  • Karol Rinehart:  President’s Night is next week, June 12, at the Legion.  Please do not park at the church across the street.

Jim Austin presented the new By-Laws for the club.  Many people have worked to update them, and there are some significant changes.  Jay Harroff made a motion to accept them, seconded by Beth Weisberg.  It passed unanimously.

Update from President Anne Slack
 
What an amazing Rotary Club we have!  It has been my honor and privilege to serve you this year.  On President’s Night, I will present all the projects, grants, and service projects we have accomplished this past year.  I think you will be impressed with your achievements!  We make a great team and we will continue to improve our club.  You will be in good hands with Jack Ford followed by Guy Van der Werf.
 
Our Duck Race this year produced a good income for the 73 non-profit organizations in town.  We will continue producing the Rotary Club Duck Race for the organizations and leave the festival to others.
 
The Object of Rotary is to provide an avenue for service.  We want to focus on that objective and preserve the feeling of friendship, fellowship, and common purpose in Rotary and have it be a welcoming, fun place to be.

Daffney is IN-ducted
 
Well, after some technical difficulties and the vagaries of the USPS, I am pleased to announce that Daffney Harroff was officially inducted to our Estes Park Rotary Club last Thursday. Daffney already has a good start with our club, having received her first Paul Harris award, and volunteering for the 2025 Duck Race. Please take a few minutes to introduce yourself and welcome her to our club as she begins her Rotary journey.

Lander Rotary Club Fundraiser
to support Ukraine
 
 
The Lander Rotary Club is holding a fundraiser to send assistance to the people of Ukraine! Jerry Venters is Foundation Chair for the Club and sent this request. After sending 100 solar panels converted to cell phone chargers for use by the people of Ukraine, the Lander Rotary Club is launching a District-wide artwork raffle and auction fundraiser to send another 100 of the cell phone chargers to war-torn Ukraine. The campaign goal is $15,000 and will continue through June 15. Paintings and photographs newly created by artists in central and western Wyoming especially for this fundraising effort will be offered – six items in a silent auction and five smaller items in a $25-per-ticket raffle (only 250 tickets will be sold). The offerings range from “Barn Owl Over the Snake,” a framed oil painting by Noelle Weimann, to “Gathering the Herd,” a metal print by Scott Copeland. The market value of the artwork in the auction ranges from $1,200 to $5,000, and in the raffle from $175 to $250. To purchase raffle tickets and bid on the auctioned artwork – and to view all of the art pieces -- go to the Lander Rotary Club’s Website, http://landerrotary.org/. To donate to this international project without purchasing artwork, click on the link for “Raffle Items,” which offers a donation option. The vacancy is Big Duck for our Duck Race 2025-2026.  This is a huge task that requires hours of work but can be so rewarding.  You can speak to any number of people in our club who have held this position to learn what is involved.  Scott Thompson is our most recent Big Duck. Also Scott Robbins, Beth Weisberg, Bill Solms....the list goes on.
