Ruby will share insights on the progress and achievements of the district following the first year of the Board of Education’s newly adopted strategic plan.
Ruby joined Estes Park School District in 2005 and has served in the capacity of teacher, coach, principal, director, and assistant superintendent. Most recently, Ruby was named the Superintendent of Estes Park Schools on July 1, 2022.
Ruby is currently a doctoral student at Colorado State University. She holds a Masters of Educational Leadership, University of Northern Colorado. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Secondary Education, Iowa State University.
Ruby is an active member of Rotary Club of Estes Park.

Jennifer Maley Brad Maggetti
Jen Maley has been a teacher librarian since 2003 and loves the strong partnership between our public and school libraries here in Estes Park. She and her husband have three children who attend Estes Park Schools, and they are grateful to be part of such an amazing community. She lives in Drake with these fabulous humans and their 11 pets. In her free time, Jen loves to read and do yoga.
Brad Maggetti is the Technical Services Supervisor at Estes Valley Library, keeping the books in order, the computers running, and facilitating the partnership with the school district for the Village Catalog. Prior to serving our community in this role, Brad worked for the National Park Service as an environmental educator and river guide at Redwood National Park in Crescent City, CA.

Update from President Anne Slack
The Annual Meeting date has been changed to October 10th. That second week of October is when the Bylaws state to hold an Annual Meeting but we already had someone scheduled so we moved the meeting back a week. When our speaker canceled I was able to move our Annual meeting to October 10th giving both the Nominating and Documentation Committees more time to accomplish their goals.
Speaking of committees we only had one member sign up on the three sign up sheets for a Documentation, Public Image and 100% Paul Harris committee. I know we are all very busy, whether we are retired or not; but do consider being part of these groups so we can get some much needed work completed.
Please consider attending District Assembly on October 12th in Cheyenne, WY at the Laramie County Community College (LCCC), 1400 E College Dr from 9 to 3 PM. Gordon and I have attended for a number of years and always enjoyed it as well as learned new ideas. Perhaps the best part is we share camaraderie with fellow District Rotarians. We are able to leave early in the morning and be home by 6 PM.

President Anne Slack called the meeting to order. Invocation by Jack Boatman. Annie led the Pledge of Allegiance. We sang “Loch Lomond”, for the Scottish Festival, accompanied by Madison Casey.

Annie acknowledged birthdays, wedding anniversaries and joining anniversaries. We sang to Karol Rinehart for her birthday.
Announcements:
Annie read a thank you letter from Robbie Gelhaus for the flowers.
Annie noted Rotary has a float in the Rose Bowl Parade. It is great advertising and they accept donations.
Allnut needs 4-5 of us to help park cars at the Rec Center for Jack Overly’s service at Allnut.
Annie is accepting crutches, wheelchairs, and braces for Crutches 4 Africa. She will deliver to Denver.
Clipboards are on the tables for committees.
Beth Weisberg said the Community Service Committee will meet in 2 weeks after this regular meeting the 19th to decide on how to support Bright Christmas.
Tara Moenning thanked all for supporting the John Denver concert. It went well and safely. She read a letter from Brad Fitch in response to our thank you letter. He loves doing this concert and supporting our club and scholarships.
Scott Robbins is Membership Director and he said he wants to have fun for all. Therefore, they will be planning more socials beyond the 5th Thursdays and he invites all to participate in the committee. He read the committee roster and asked for members to verify they want to continue.
Tom Maher apologized that he didn’t plan his profile talk for today and didn’t see the email reminder so, he told a joke. Annie said we will do it another time.
Scott Thompson said we need volunteers to pour beer for Elk Fest weekend of Sept 28-29.

Chuck Bonza was happy his long-time friend Dwight Strandberg is here.
Lawrence Trifiletti is happy for his 31st wedding anniversary.
Neal Standard is a member and Past President for the Peak to Peak Rotary in Gilpin County and is happy to be able to attend our meetings when he is in town with his wife every week.
Carl was happy for Tom’s good joke and Bill Solms is here and didn’t wear his ugly duck shirt.
Scott Robbins is happy the Fort Collins Foothills Club we mentored on our duck race is having their first one this Saturday 11:00-2:00 and supporting 30 charities. They have an excellent website for it and are on their way to success.
Tom Maher is happy for Karol’s birthday. He noted that, related to the Scottish Festival, Rotary has its own tartan and that he will bring a sample.
Karen Thompson says she has also seen the tartan and they are no longer available. She was happy to see Neal Standard and Rick Taylor here today.
Grant Delbeqc was happy for Tara and the excellent John Denver concert.
Bill Solms was happy that Carl was MC at the John Denver concert and for Lawrence Trifiletti’s computer skills.
Annie thanked those who worked the Arts & Crafts show last weekend for Sunrise Rotary. Also, the Jack Ford story at Board meeting about the John Denver concert was excellent.

Community Service Committee Meeting Set for September 19, 2024
The Community Service Committee will meet on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion, right after the regular noon Rotary meeting ends. We will be discussing Bright Christmas and making a decision about whether or not to adopt a family again this year.

Neal Standard Visited Our Club

Neal visited our Club on Thursday. I wanted to present him with a banner but was unsure if he was just visiting for one day, or joining. It turns out that he will be reinstated as a Rotarian with his Peak to Peak Rotary Club in Black Hawk, CO on Tuesday; and then plans to attend our meetings for a number of weeks since his wife will be in Estes working Wednesdays and Thursdays for weeks. Tom Maher and he are old friends. We discussed exchanging banners from our clubs and decided to go ahead and do it there and then. Please be sure to greet Neal when he is with us again on Thursday.

Our meetings always begin with the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s Report. The Minutes from August 2024 and the Treasurer’s Report were approved unanimously by voice vote.
The President’s Report included the following: Duck Race Directorate – Per Bylaws we must have vote by members with published announcement of proposed change at our Annual Meeting 10/03. This action has to be announced in our newsletter two weeks prior to the Annual Meeting. Nominating Committee – New members of committee: Carl Robicheaux, Jack Ford, Paula Edwards, Sarah Walsh and Chris Davis. Need slate of nominees by 9/12 so can be published x 3 before Annual Meeting. If not accomplished, will have to postpone. Committee Formation – Clip Boards for Committees: 100% Paul Harris, Documents, and Public Image Annual Meeting on October 3 – Agenda: Report on satisfaction survey, nominating slate if Bylaw requirements met, vote on duck race directorate
Past President /Foundation Report – Karen Thompson – Rotary will match up to $300 per Rotarian for non-profits.
President Elect Report – Jack Ford – Scheduling for January meetings.
Old Business: Jim Austin – Bylaws should meet State Laws and International Rotarian Laws. Looking for help from 3 Rotarians and hoping for a first draft by October.
New Business: Restoration Ranch, Colorado: Annie will schedule visit.
Reports: Community Services: Beth Weisberg Pumpkins are pending but in process. Waiting for date on MacGregor Ranch. Chuck Bonza is looking to fund Salud project. Bright Christmas – Meeting to determine if as a club do we want to support a family? It helps Bright Christmas more for us to take a family, since then they don't have to coordinate shopping for the requested presents. They appreciate money, but it is much better for them if we adopt a family.
Duck Race Committee: Scott Thompson Recruiting key positions. Meeting with town, Visit Estes Park, and merchants in attempt to turn the race into festival.
Fund Development Committee: Tara and Phil Moenning Eventbrite will update financial results by next board meeting. 495 tickets were sold on line as well as tickets at the door. Food for volunteers at 215pm which worked as a social. Photos were taken before the event which worked well. Brad Fitch did a great job greeting guests. No one was injured which is the best success. Tuesday, December 10 is dinner at Twin Owls. Committee will start collecting photos until mid-October for Friendship Card.
Membership Committee: Scott Robbins Central google workspace for documents. Need for human connection. Proposing a coffee club to get to know each other. Social activities like bowling, hiking around Lake Estes or going to the theater. Passed unanimously on voice vote.
Youth/New Gen/Vocational: Jim Jonell Bennett Kemp is our outbound foreign exchange student. Jim and Joanie Jonell will visit Lucia Miano. We will not have an inbound foreign exchange student this year. Interact is a slow process to get everyone together.
Concluding Remarks: Jack Ford helped Sunrise Rotary clean up elk droppings for Labor Day in Bond Park. Crutches for Africa – Bill Howell will store equipment in his garage. Current Club Commitments – Let Dave and Annie know how to update Spoke. Scott Thompson will write article for Spoke on Elk Fest.
