This week: Creating a culture of caring

Karen Randinitis, Estes Park resident who facilitates the Communities that Care program locally, will present our program this week. She will share the work of Communities that Care, which is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Communities that Care is a science-based framework that looks at local level data and gaps in services and works towards substance abuse prevention and positive youth development. This program falls under Larimer County Dept of Health and Environment and answers the question from the Governor regarding prevention programs using marijuana retail tax dollars. Forty-six communities in the state have picked up this funding.

Program
Guy Van der Werf introduced today's speaker, Dr. Krisha Murthy, a past president of the Fort Collins Breakfast Club. Dr. Murthy has expertise with Rotary international Global Grants, and he highlighted two that helped the Dr. M.C. Modi Eye Hospital in India. Through cooperation with local clubs, District 5440, RI, and clubs in India, Dr. Murthy was able bring $150,000 to the hospital to help with eye exams and procedures for patients unable afford quality eye care.

Dr. Murthy also shared his Rotary Journey, which began as a Rotary volunteer and inspired him to join the international organization where he believed cooperation with other clubs, districts and RI can make a difference in people's lives.

Dr. Murthy signed a book, India, for the children's library and accepted a Piece of the Rock to thank him for his program.

Adjournment
President Kathy adjourned the meeting with the Four-Way Test at 1 p.m.

Rotary Quote of the Week

"One of the most pressing aspects of diversity to address in our membership is the age of our members. When you look around at almost any Rotary event, it becomes immediately obvious that the age range in the room does not promise a sustainable future for our organization. Our membership is near a record high, and we are bringing in new members all the time - yet only a small minority of those members are young enough to have decades of Rotary service ahead of them. To ensure a strong and capable Rotary leadership tomorrow, we need to bring in young and capable members today."

                              - 2017-18 RI President Ian H.S. Riseley
