District Manager, Chris Bieker is a 42-year full-time resident of Estes Park and has been employed at Upper Thompson Sanitation District for 34 years. During his long tenure at the District, he has performed every function at the facility with an emphasis on wastewater treatment operations. He has managed catastrophic infrastructure losses and flood recovery, navigated pandemics, and most recently wildfire complications, and still loves rolling his sleeves up and delivering one of Estes Park’s most essential services. He considers his next two years to be his most critical and difficult challenge with the design and construction of a new water reclamation facility and lift stations.
Suzanne Jurgens began serving Upper Thompson Sanitation District in 2014 as Financial Officer and was promoted to Assistant District Manager in 2020.
Beginning in 2012 Matt Allen served the Upper Thompson Sanitation District in the Collection Department as an Operator, and was subsequently promoted to Foreman, and Superintendent. In 2021 Matt was promoted to Operations Manager overseeing operations of the Wastewater Treatment Facility and Collection Department.

Exciting things are continuing to happen at the Club the spring!
Your Club members on the Scholarship Committee will begin evaluating applicants for the Rotary Scholarships we will present in May.
Our Golf Committee Club members will have their inaugural meeting on April 14th prior to the Club meeting.
They will begin working on our Rotary Golf Tournament for June.
The event will raise money to help pay for next year’s scholarships.
Everyone who wants to help with our Community Cleanup Project on April 30, sign up at the Club meeting Thursday or let our Community Service Chair, Beth Weisberg, know of your interest.
(Yes, Beth is very busy helping Estes Valley become a better place!)

President Jim Whiteneck called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm. President Whiteneck led the Pledge of Allegiance. Dennis Gellhaus gave the Invocation. Madison Casey led the song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. Jack Boatman was The Greeter

Announcements:
Jim Whiteneck said Karol Rinehart was passing around a clipboard with volunteer opportunities.
Greg Jurgens said there was a “Duck Sorting” party at the Quality Inn after the meeting today.
Jim Whiteneck announced there was a Duck Race Committee meeting at 5pm by Zoom today.
Anne Slack announced that
more volunteers are still needed to make calls for prize donations from local businesses
try to get donation forms submitted by Monday April 11th so that the merchant would be advertised in EP News Friday, April 15th edition.
Ron Gordon announced that our Club had raised $17,246 for the Ukrainian Relief Fund.
Chuck added that he had been following the Rotary Club activities near Ukraine
He gave a nice report on the relief efforts in Moldova, Romania, and Poland.
Jim Whiteneck added
the Trail Ridge Quilters and EP Quilt Guild are making and selling potholders for Ukrainian Relief and have raised $145 so far.
the Golf Tournament will be held on June 18 to raise scholarship money.

we still need a volunteers for the President Elect and Club Secretary positions
and a volunteer is needed to assist with the club web site.
Mel Rueppel, Sergeant-At-Arms, fined everyone
$2.00 if they were not wearing their badge
$5 if they had not bought a duck yet
He also fined everyone that guessed that a “Black Mamba” was anything other than the women’s group called Anti-Poaching Unit in Africa.

Jim Austin was happy to be back from Arizona.
Scott Robbins was happy to see Jim Jonell again.
Program: Dennis Gellhaus introduced Donna Chapel, who was a tax and accounting specialist and, upon retiring has been involved in many nonprofit boards including the Rotary Club of Fort Collins.
She and her husband, Tom, visited Rwanda and Tanzania on a two-week African safari in August 2018.
She gave a video presentation on all the animals they saw, including the baboons in Rwanda and a multitude of animals in Tanzania including the “cats” (lions, tigers and leopards), zebras, rhinos, chetahs, giraffes, elephants, hippopotamus, water buffalos.
They were very pleased with their tour company, “And Beyond”, who organized all their accommodations, meals, and guides.

Spring Clean Up Day

It’s Spring Clean Up time again!
Over the winter a lot of trash and debris collects along our roads, in trees and bushes, around our lakes, and along the river.
Many volunteers are needed to assist in the annual cleanup of our Town in preparation for the Duck Race, to create a safer environment, and to beautify our community for residents and visitors.
Mark your calendars for the morning of Saturday, April 30th, 9 am to noon to help with this effort, a collaboration of the Town of Estes Park, the Rotary Club of Estes Park, the Estes Valley Recreation and Parks Department, and Atlas Disposal.
Groups and volunteers are asked to meet at 9 am at the east side of the Visitor’s Center for instructions, route assignments, and distribution of orange bags.
