Kicking off the Next 100 Years

I am Robin Sims, and it’s my honor to serve this club as your club president for the next year, a year where “Rotary Connects the World” will be our theme.

“Rotary allows us to connect with each other, in deep and meaningful ways, across our differences,” in the words of the Rotary International President, Mark Maloney.

“It connects us to people we would never otherwise have met, who are more like us than we ever could have known. It connects us to our communities, to professional

opportunities, and to the people who need our help.”

The Rotary Club of Cheyenne celebrates all of the reasons each of us are Rotarians, whether we connect through weekly programs, through fellowship or professional

networking, through service, or through a combination of these. Each Rotarian brings different life experiences and interests, and we celebrate those differences as well.  We are fortunate to belong to a club that honors all the reasons you are Rotarians and the traditions we’ve shared.

Each of you has an important role to play in this club and our future.  This past year, we’ve celebrated our history of over a hundred years of Rotary in Cheyenne. Our challenge is how to continue to honor each tradition, but to also remain relevant in our community and to our members – both current members and future members.

Whether it is our meetings, our projects and programs, or how we interact with the community and tell our story, we have to ask ourselves,

“Is it relevant – to our community, to new and existing members, and to the world?”  If we do not do what we need to do to be relevant, this club will not see another

100 years.

My goal, my only goal, is to lead a club with a legacy that includes both a past and a future.  We have a talented and diverse group that will serve as your board of

directors!  Last year the board created a new strategic plan, and we will continue to think strategically.

Together we’ll attempt to set the course for inviting the community to join us – either as supporters or members or both.  Not because we need to meet some membership goal, but because as an older club, we face the realities of life.  We’ll offer fellowship opportunities to network and create lasting relationships.  We hope to start more Rotary-led opportunities for members and alumni of various Rotary programs to connect through Rotary, as well as opportunities for families to experience Rotary and community service together.  We will try to be creative in how we share the Rotary story in Cheyenne.   We will address the financial realities of higher costs of membership that leave fewer resources for service.  And last, but never least, we will continue to strive for diverse and interesting lunch programs and good food.

Your club leadership can’t do any of this without you.  We are 175 members strong, with experience and resources to actively engage in our community, and with a 100 year legacy of being leaders in our community.  The Rotary Club of Cheyenne can do so much in this community and around the world.  It’s our challenge, and our honor, as we tackle the next 100 years together as “Rotary Connects the World!”
