This Week in Rotary
**JOIN OUR MEETINGS!!**

Our Speaker last week:

Did you know that Rotary and Toastmasters have formed a partnership?  Our speaker, Wendi Polman, was with us this morning to explain that partnership.  Wendi, who is also the daughter of Roger Cline, explained that when she spend a year in Brazil as a Rotary Exchange student the foundation was laid for understanding the importance of  international relationships.  She has been with Progressive Insurance for 23 years and became a part of Toastmasters 4 years ago.  She is now a District Director of Toastmasters and has given approximately 42 speeches.

She explained to us that Toastmasters was founded in 1924 and is now in 143 countries.  It is based on the ideal of strengthening oral communication and leadership skills.  She further explained that both Toastmasters and Rotary have a strong emphasis on service and education, so it was a natural partnership.

Wendy explained that there are specific components of each meeting.  There is always a Toastmaster of the Day, who basically is in charge of the meeting.  Then there are one or two speakers who are evaluated by specific individuals.  They look for things like repeating words, language usage and following time signals.  There are also surprise "table topics" which members speak about on an impromptu basis.

Sarvanthi Vallampati, joined Wendi on the screen and both of them said that Rotarians would be welcomed at Stow, Cuyahoga Falls or Akron if people were interested.  A visit to www.Toastmasters.org will help you find meetings close to you.  Any relationships developed between members of the two organizations would strengthen both Toastmasters and Rotary.  Bob is going to check on possibilities with Interact youth to see if that might be another way to link the two organizations.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 - Marty Tass thanked everyone who planted our Adopt-A-Spot at the Doughboy.  He said how important it is that we keep it weeded and suggested that when any of the members have a minute, they stop by and weed for 20 minutes.  We may set up a schedule if this doesn't work.  But, since it is at the corner of Darrow and Graham Rds., it is important that we keep it looking good.

- Remember that we are now meeting at 7:45 instead of 8:00 for our virtual meetings.  We haven't seen some of the club faces since the pandemic began, and hope you will be able to join us next week.  We miss you.

I am copying Rotarians, especially our veterans with the following invitation to join a zoom meeting with Ohio 16th Congressional District Anthony Gonzalez on 10 June at 1500 hours.

That is 3:00 PM for those whose memories have faded on military time. Because of the limit of 100 participants I nee you to confirm if you would like to receive a zoom invitation.

Reply to Jack. Harig@Gmail.com. This should be of particular interest to Rotary veterans of any of our service branches.

Good evening from the Ohio Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).  Our chapter President, Donald Bratton, has invited you to participate in a virtual meeting with Ohio 16th Congressional District Anthony Gonzalez on 10 June at 1500 hours.  I wanted to make sure you had received the information we are sending out concerning the virtual meeting.

Please find one attachment. It contains is a list of seven issues we wish to discuss with Congressman Gonzalez.  These are what MOAA and other members of The Military Coalition (TMC) see as having detrimental impacts on the military community now and into the future for active, reserve, national guard, retirees and families thereof. To those issues, I am appending a list of TMC organizations for your information.  Many of your members may belong to one or more of these.

If you have any questions you would like answered or addressed beyond what we have listed for the Congressman, please forward them to me at painters4@comcast.net, phone or FAX 330-548-9174, or text me at 269-719-5389. I will forward them to his staff.

Thanks, John Anderson, LTC USA (retired), Legislative Affairs Officer, OWRC.

PS:  We are limited to 100 participants and are not sure how many people will sign-up/sign-in to participate.  Jack Harig will soon be sending out the sign-in procedures.  I would recommend signing on early insure a space.

Rotary International Convention
If any of you have interest in attending this, please let Carrie Leising know and she will send you the email with the links. It is not an all day affair and the schedule is below for your reference. I hope some of you take this opportunity to participate!

Have you ever wanted to attend a Rotary International Convention? Now you have the opportunity to attend the International Convention form the comfort of your home. Many of our Rotarians do not have the resources or time to travel to an International Convention but now you can participate in the first online Convention that Rotary has ever hosted.

Now More Than Ever, Rotary Connects the World: The 2020 Rotary Virtual Convention will join you with Rotary participants around the world during a time of unprecedented challenges.

Together, we’ll still experience the spirit of Rotary, be inspired by innovation, celebrate our resilience, and explore how clubs are addressing COVID-19. Experience Rotary in action during our Flag Ceremony, witness the power of connection during our general sessions, learn new ways to engage with Rotary during our breakout sessions, find inspiration from our global speakers, and much more.

We have never needed Rotary — and we have never needed each other — more than we do now. We hope to see you online, because Now More Than Ever, Rotary Connects the World.
