The Stow-Munroe Falls High School Interact Club needs our help!
The Club is sending a personalized Christmas card to every resident of each senior living facility in Stow and Munroe Falls.  The group is collecting new Christmas cards, holiday stickers, colored pens, etc.  Please contact Linda Trevorrow for donation information.  Thank You!

Happy Bucks!

Bob Oborn transferred his Foundation points to Steve Dunton.  Steve is now a Paul Harris Fellow! Bob and Dick Hall surprised Steve with his award.  Way to go Rotarians!!!

Andy Denton pointed out the great list of books related to subjects of various Rotary projects around the world.  See the latest 'Rotarian' magazine for details.  She also asked for prayers for her daughter, Marcie, who underwent a stem cell transplant last Friday.  Marcie --- we wish you a speedy recovery and many, many healthy years!

GREAT NEWS!

Tina Gary beamed as she shared her special news ... Our very own Foundation received a $5,000 grant from a Summit County Cares Act program.  Kudos to Tina, Rick Archer and Linda Trevorrow for assisting with this project!

John Pribonic was pleased to tell our group of the $20,000 Summit County / Cares Act  grant award to Stow Bulldog Bags.  Stow fared well in the grants distribution program!!
Highlights from last week's program:

Our Program Host, Don Greenleaf, was happy to share a story of his adventures helping his neighbors hang Christmas lights.   Thank you Don for brightening the world with your Rotary spirit!  We are thankful for your signs of hope during these challenging times!

Don introduced Cyle Feldman, Athletic Director at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, as our speaker.  Don coached Cyle in his high school days, watched him coach at Ravenna, welcomed his return to Stow-Munroe Falls as coach.  Cyle has been the Athletic Director at the high school for almost 20 years!

Cyle expressed his appreciation for our club and all we do in the community, operating under the Four-Way Test.

He then explained that this has been a difficult school year and particularly explained the challenges of the Athletic Department as it  works with 27 sports at three levels each.  Each sport had to be evaluated as to its level of risk in coordination with local health departments.  This became particularly complicated because our athletes travel to other counties and must also follow their regulations.

In Stow, every coach completes a COVID monitoring form for each event, including practices, so that if contact tracing is required, the information is available.  The department purchased masks and thermometers and has taken other measures to be sure fans, students, student-athletes and parents are safe during workouts, scrimmages, and competitions.  As of last week, Stow had 19 positive cases which  placed 92 people in quarantine, including some athletes. The entire team is quarantined if two persons on a team test positive.

The scramble for tickets is a challenging problem because of limited capacity due to social distancing.  Tickets are available for 15% of normal capacity,  which translates to 300 for basketball games.  Families have the first claim for tickets.  Face coverings are required at events and people are expected to sit in family groups.

Parents are encouraged to transport their students to away games/matches.  This arrangement helps to reduce the number of people on a bus, and helps with social distancing.

Cyle used the quote: "Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting."  This is sometimes difficult in this atmosphere, but something he encourages in his athletes, staff and families.

Our thanks to Cyle for his timely presentation.  It is encouraging to know that our school administrators are seeking ways to help students maintain some sense of sports normalcy!

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!

Remember, this program is active at AMAZON SMILES, not the 'regular' Amazon website.
