Happy Bucks!

Don Coughlin's grandson Michael, a freshman at Miami of Ohio, scored his first collegiate hockey goal last week and it was the only goal scored in the game.  Way to go Michael!

Brad Jagger's daughter, Rachael is interviewing for a job in scenic design in Seattle.  The employer is a concrete construction company which deals with exhibits that are made to look authentic but are really made of concrete. Brad --- please keep us posted!!

Bob Oborn is celebrating Annette's birthday every day in February. True love!!!

Annette Oborn told us about a Superbowl Squares fundraiser benefitting the Herren Project.  The group provides assistance to those in recovery, as well as their families. Let's hope lots of money was raised for this wonderful organization!

Dick Hall received his first COVID vaccine shot.  He will be even happier in a few weeks after receiving his second dose.  Marty Tass is sure to share his vaccine experience SOON!

Highlights from last week's meeting:

Career Tech Month will give us opportunities to learn about a variety of career choices available to young and old, alike.  Dick Hall is the host for all meetings this month!  His Happiness Moments ---- visiting Rotarians and honoring them with their Paul Harris awards.  Thank you Dick for brightening the lives of fellow Rotarians!

Dick introduced Martin Helm, the Training Director for the Akron Area Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) in which he administers registered electrical apprenticeships and continuous education for journey level workers for IBEW Local 306.  He has over 20 years of experience in the electrical and construction fields and has fulfilled this capacity as a student worker, apprentice, journeyman, foreman, military, engineer, and instructor.

Marty shared information about the Akron Area Electrical JATC and its programs for Inside Apprenticeship, Residential Apprenticeship and Construction Wireman.  This office serves Summit, Medina, Portage and Wayne counties --- one of many throughout the US.  Apprenticeships offer planned, supervised on-the-job training and related classroom instruction.  Apprentices earn wages as they learn, have no school debt, and have good paying jobs waiting for them at the conclusion of their training. A shortage of skilled workers in electrical positions exists today.  A Residential Journeyman will start around $23 per hour; an Inside Journeyman will start around $36 per hour.

Apprentices gain valuable knowledge and earn a solid paycheck (with benefits!) on the way to becoming a Journey-level Electrician.  The apprenticeship programs are designed to fully prepare students for a rewarding career as an electrician.  An Associates Degree is also available while studying at Northwest State College.  Contact JATC at (330) 644-4286 or visit their website at Office@JATC.org for additional information.

Let's hope many young men and women submit applications for training.  Electrician jobs will not be fulfilled by persons outside the US.  Marty, thanks for an informative presentation!

Hosts --- Please invite your speakers to learn more about Rotary!  Carrie, thank YOU for keeping everyone 'in the loop'.
