Rotary Foundation Month
The Rotary Foundation is recognized as one of the most effective and well-managed charitable organizations in the world, with 12 consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator and an A-plus rating from CharityWatch. November is Rotary Foundation Month and through the end of the year we will be focusing on a Foundation drive.

WHY Donate?

In order for our Club to qualify for grants we HAVE to have a average donation of $35 per Rotarian for our Club. Our stretch goal has always been $100 per Rotarian. That would be $6000 this year. We were able to achieve that last year!! But bigger than us is all of the good our donations help to do in our country and world! Clean water projects, education and literacy, community economic development, disease prevention and treatment and so much more! Please help us achieve our goals!

Paul Harris Fellow:

As you donate to the Foundation, your donations accumulate towards earning a Paul Harris Fellow. Paul Harris is the founder of the Foundation and when you reach $1000 in total giving you are recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. For each $1000 given there after, you get a +1, +2, and so on. We are lucky enough to have a Paul Harris +9 in our Club!! Thank you Ron Taggert! Your dedication to the betterment of our country and world is amazing! Dick Hall has shared with each of our Rotarian's where they are in their Paul Harris journey's. Please see Dick if you have not received your paper.

HOW to Donate?

Bring a check to meeting made Payable to: Rotary Foundation and give it to Dick Hall or you can go to rotary.org/donate and make a one time donation or set yourself up for recurring payments. (my preferred method of donating smiley)

Wheel of Fortune
Anne Gentile talked to us about her journey that allowed her to participate in "Wheel of Fortune".  One of her tenets that pushed her into doing this was her quote, "The world of life is paved with flat squirrels who couldn't make a decision."

The initial try-outs involved three shows in October where people were seated and 25 names were pulled from a barrel.  Those 25 were taken on the stage and interviewed.  They were then told that they would be contacted with the results.  In January she was in Cleveland with 69 others for the next cut.  That group was interviewed and given 16 puzzles to solve.  20 of the puzzle solvers were then called back and there was another session of evaluating their manner of speaking, enthusiasm, etc. to try to determine how they would be on the show.  Two weeks later she received a letter saying that the show would be in touch in the next 12-18 months.  She ultimately was contacted to go to Los Angeles the following September, of 2017, and needed to be there for two weeks.  That was at her expense.  She and her family decided to go.

There was lots of paperwork involved and they were told to bring extra clothes in case of a problem.  Since the wheel weighs 2400 pounds, there was practice in spinning the wheel.  The staff was conscious that the contestants were hydrated and had plenty of food.  The make-up time was very calming.  Vanna White approached all of them and was very kind. Anne was at the studio from 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. When she actually competed, she said it was the fastest 22 minutes of her life.  She won $5000.  Although it was very stressful, she said it was an incredible experience.

"Building" a Better Community and Club
Dick's friends often joke that they have to pay to be friends with him, but we are thankful for his dedication to our club, even when he is being persnickety!! lol! Thank you Dick!!!
